If/when Ian Anderson makes it back, some decisions will have to be made, if he comes back and pitches well. I wonder if Soroka will ever pitch again...what a loss it was when he re-tore his Achilles. We'd have had 3 to 3.5 aces on our staff.
Soroka is just the latest in a long line of Braves's starters since the end of the big 3's reign. It's been one good year then injury or simply not repeating their success. It's too bad, the young man had HOF ability.
I just looked for another case like Soroka's. When I Google pitchers re-tear achilles ONLY Soroka's name comes up. After 3 surgeries to repair the same achilles, I fear you might be right, his career might be over.
Ynoa looks truly dominant at times.
Ynoa has given up 2 or fewer earned runs in 8 of his 10 starts this season.
Fried has a 0.67 era in August
Morton has a 2.25 era in August
Toussaint has a 3.24 era in August
Smyly has given up more than 3 earned runs in just 1 of his last 18 starts.
Anderson has better stuff than any of those guys, but he hasn't been in form since April, he is a big question mark right now.
On balance this is a staff as of now that can hold down the opponents's score in a high percentage of starts. I'll post again on how our pen is doing of late.
I can't say enough about how well the team has performed since the trade deadline. The guys we picked up aren't even necessarily the ones carrying the weight either. We finally got the remaining core guys playing at a very high level, and that's exactly what carried us so far in the playoffs last year. There is historical precedent for a team like ours to go the distance, even with the young talent we have on the mound. We have to focus on sustaining results now, because the other teams in the division have the talent to go on a run like we just did, and we could easily backslide again.
Even with Acuna out the past couple of months the team is top 3 in HRs in MLB this season. If Acuna had been in the lineup we'd be 1st. We're also 4th in defense in MLB. When pitching came around those 3 classic Braves's strengths started carrying the team.
Braves Win !!! Braves Win !!! Braves Win !!!
Congrats to the 2021 Bravos !!! 4 Straight and an MLB Record 21 Division Pennants....Wow !!!
Incredible year...the guys hung in there thru a barrage of injuries...and some plain ol' bad luck. And how bout the moves by AA at the deadline....seems like they all came up huge.
Great Year...so far....now let's go get it. I think there's room for another WS banner at Truist:)
p.s ATL v MIL for the first time in October...gotta figure there will be some kind of tribute to The Hammer:)
That would be amazing to have a Hank Aaron tribute. He loved that organization as much as he did Atlanta’s!
It was done when they met this season. Now it can be done on a bigger stage!
The All-Star game, still burns a little bit! They had a wonderful tribute for him taken away!
MLB can repair that decision with this series, he was a great player, but a truly wonderful man! He needs to be celebrated for what he has done with a life time achievement!
Now is the time for the MLB to step up or to the side and get out of Atlanta's way, we will see soon enough, Friday is a week away!
Braves win 3-0 to take a 2 to 1 lead in the series.
Solid pitching and Joctober 3-run bomb
Joctober!
I had visions of Lonnie Smith from Braves-twins world series when Duval made his base running gaffe.
Thankfully these Braves did not roll over and quit.
What does Pederson have to do to crack starting lineup.
Hopefully these braves have turned the corner.
Kind of cool when he has three pinch hits and two of them were homers!
What a weapon!
Weapon? Yes, but how about that pitching staff? 2 shutouts plus 6 shutout innings from Charlie Morton !!! Not sure the last time that happened.
Old school Bravos winning formula, great pitching and a 3 run dinger.
