Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

The NCAA will want 10% for the big guy
And I'm OK with that. They are providing the platform for these guys to be famous.
Structured over 3 years with year 3 being the big payout year. Not too far fetched.
That would be more believable than a lump $30M for one year which is what has been reported as gospel.
If that is the case hypothetically, $30M for 29 recruits. That's roughly $1M per commit. Spread out over 3 years that is $333K per year per recruit. That's if each recruit got the same "deal". We can assume 5-star players demand a bigger deal and 4-stars a little less, and 3-stars a lot less. Just spitballing here. Anyway you slice it, it's a lot of money being thrown around. And what exactly are these players actually doing to earn an NIL deal? Is work involved?
Don’t think it really matters. Could be an Instagram post, autograph signing, etc…
If this class somehow wins a title it’ll be worth it. If they don’t, I doubt they see this type of success in recruiting again.
That is true...but imagine if Bama, Clemson or OSU follow this business model. I don't think TAMU wins a championship mostly because of Jimbo. But Saban, Day or Dabo or Reily....or even Smart could exploit this and really start putting together some outrageous classes and win big.
None of those schools have to. If they choose to then all these doomsday scenarios spoken of here as prophecy might actually happen.
If it gets you a #1 class, and you are winning why wouldn't the top schools do it? Kirby said it's not just about winning championships anymore. The recruiting game has changed. Money talks. Those teams that want to remain at the top will have to follow suit or else lose out on the elite recruits. This is assuming that no changes are made and programs are allowed to pool whatever money they want without restrictions. If it works, it will only grow bigger. UGA and Bama didn't need it this year because it just started. Next year will likely be a different story. Not sure why anyone has such faith in humanity that they believe the situation will auto-correct itself. Billions of dollars are in play here. Like you said about my Auburn coaching buyouts comment...that kind of money equates to a rounding error to some of these boosters.
After thinking about this and listening to many “experts”, even if NIL remains as it currently stands, I suspect it will cool off after a year or two… unless “Texas ATM” wins a natty 2 years from now as a result. 😉
If TAMU shows any significant improvement, you better believe all the top teams will follow the blueprint. Not to would be program suicide.
I've heard they are 4 year deals, with around 20-25 million. See how this is never ending unless we know the facts?
Do you not think Saban, Day, Riley, and Smart are already heavily involved in offering great NIL deals? Rumors are UGA offered Hunter $850k, he went onto take reportedly the $2 million for Barstool contingent upon him playing at a HBCU. Doesn't seem UGA, Bama, etc. are really low-balling their offers either.
Those who spend the most have always had an advantage, at least for the past 30+ years. Now players are just getting their piece of the pie. So, those schools who used to spend a ton will still spend a ton, just some revenue will be reallocated for players.
In the "old days" you'd hear about a kid getting $25-50k, or a Camaro, or a nice free rental house for his family...Cam was reportedly paid $180K. His was the largest I heard about. And those were few and far between because the risk was so great. Now we are talking a factor of 10 increase for as many players as the boosters can afford. Players were never offered anywhere near 7 figures in the bag-man days. I am sure every coach is involved. Any references on the $850K to Hunter? That doesn't sound like something Kirby would approve of. Maybe 5 years down the road it will...but not in this go-around.
So, UGA’s rumored NIL offerings need to be questioned, but A&M’s are treated as fact by you? I read it from a former insider that used to post on this site.
You’re always hung up on the amount. Want to see how much money the NCAA and P5 schools are making now compared to 10, 20, and 30 years ago? Of course the payments are going to go up. UGA has basically doubled its football revenue just since Kirby got here.
