New Year's Acute Dunlap Disease Treatment
So as usual between the leftover Thanksgiving stuff, Christmas season grubbing and the New Year's vacation I substituted for buying a bunch of stuff that no one needed I am back to working off this flesh colored pocketless fanny pack that appeared just north of my belt in December. I usually do the keto thing on top of the usual gym routine to get the weight off and have about 7-8 of it off so far. Who's also working on it and what are you doing?

Intermittent Fasting has been good to me. I’m of the belief that all diets can work, but the best diet is whatever you can stick to.
My top weight was 262 in 2022. I got as low as 204 (-58lbs) and have settled around 210 is my pretty easy maintenance weight.
I should also add that I significantly cut my alcohol consumption. This wasn’t so much an active choice as it was the result of becoming a father of two babies who love to wake up early every day. The hangovers just aren’t worth it. Plus it’s harder to get to a bar with my buddies consistently (they’ve also had kids recently.) I can tell that I hang on to weight much easier after a weekend where I do get to have a few (ie football season.)
Trying to hit 10K steps a day.
Trying to not overdo it on drinking and junk food.
Trying to average one pound of weight down a week.
Yeah I hear you on the alcohol reduction/elimination. That’s a huge part of it for me...can’t drop the weight when you’re knocking them back and it really kills my exercise effectiveness and motivation. I have also found when on drastic carb reduction if I do indulge I have to be very careful with the volume...it really kicks in without all those carbs to absorb it. Older I get I’m not sure it’s even worth it anymore; expensive, makes you fat, not good for you in any way. I can see it in my blood pressure readings for 2 days after I drink every time.
I’ve been working off the holiday baggage myself. I was already doing 1 and 4 but holiday eating and drinking packed it on. And by Holiday I mean from 1st of November thru new years. After a few weeks I’m already back down close to fighting weight.
How are you managing your IF? I have added that during the week trying the 8/16 approach (no breakfast, just eat noon-8) and that has helped burn it off for me.
I didn't gain any because I don't diet. I chose a lifestyle that works for me and my health has improved immensely.
No potatoes, no rice, no pasta, no bread, no processed sugar....basically a lot of white stuff, lol.
Shop the perimeter of the grocery store.
Read labels. If something has more than 4 or 5 ingredients, I don't eat it. If it contains seed oils, I don't eat it.
I eat only grass fed and finished beef.
I don't eat a ton of vegetables. A lot of them have natural defense mechanisms that result in leaky gut for humans and have far less available nutrients than people think.
Agree with Dawgwired....I don't eat late. Usually nothing past 6:30. And then I don't eat again until at least 10 or 11 the next morning.
You are what you eat. Know how your food is sourced and fed. If the government tells you to eat it....avoid it.
So almost a carnivore diet? Meat, dairy, eggs....
I stay active on the go and eat vegetables, chicken, pork, fish, and a little pizza. 😎
one thing that has helped me immensely was doing more low impact moving... trying to counteract that I sit at a desk.
So, no matter what and as a baseline, I try to walk for 30-45 mins per day. I usually do it in the morning before work (read the news, check emails, and such)
Then I get the regular weight workout in and/or sparring - depending on the days and recovery.
I've opted to "mindfully eat" instead of diet.
So, I still get my cupcake and burger here and there but it's after burning a good bit of calories and maybe eating a little less on the other meals to balance out the added carbs.
So far, I'm down 5 pounds... but don't really weigh myself until the start of next month
My only salvation for keeping the sludge from sticking is a daily mile plus walk with my dog. Bowl of shredded wheat and berries helps to keep everything moving. I try to manage a responsible alcohol intake and always eat with a conscience. Most importantly I cut the sugar, salt and processed foods down to as little as possible. Almost the same weight and waist size, 32", since I was in my 20s so not changing anything.
Close. It's more about single ingredient food.
I do eat plenty of fruit. Bananas, blackberries, avocado, pineapples, and apples are my favorite.
It started with finding out my "numbers". My diastolic blood pressure had started to increase and my neighbor mentioned that hers had dropped after she gave up coffee. I did that and mine dropped by 10. I did a lot of reading about gut health and it's impact on overall health, pretty compelling.
Just reading labels is huge. American shelves are filled with products that contain seed oils and they are one of the primary contributors to inflammation. Even something seemingly healthy like the Costco roast chicken is full of toxic junk and cancer-causing ingredients.
You can't fight DNA so everyone has to figure out what works best for them. Just getting out and walking every day is good, often has more benefits than running. It sure does help to have a canine best friend who likes the walks as much as you do.
Zyns. Curbs your appetite and gives you the nicotine that a day at the office necessitates.
@wpony714 - my wife’s been reading this week about avoiding foods with lectins and following a “leaky gut” diet. Is that part of your approach?
That’s pretty much it - drop breakfast and wait until lunch. I also try to eat an early dinner with my kids around 6 and then that’s it for the night. I keep busy with other things so I don’t snack.
Lectins can be bad news. Leaky gut plus they can bind to carbs like sugar and they can prevent the body from absorbing other foods that have nutritional value.
All living things have a protective/preservation process. Plants have/use lectins because "they want to live", lol. Those protective mechanisms are aimed at discouraging what eats them. When they are consumed, they irritate the gut thereby hoping to eliminate the threat. Peanuts, tomatoes, soybeans, potatoes are all on my no list.
Just about everything in the nightshade family is a no. Potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant are all nightshades. They not only can cause inflammation but they exacerbate medical issues if you do have inflammation.
Gas....sugars that cause gas are raffinose, lactose, fructose, and sorbitol. Foods high in raffinose? Cauliflower, asparagus, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, radishes, and some others. Everyone's got gas but these produce an abnormal amount and who wants all that discomfort?
Single ingredient items are the key, especially if you can trace where they came from. It's astounding to me that the USFDA will allow the consumption of almond "milk" and oat "milk". Real milk comes from mammalian glands. Last time I checked, almonds and oats don't have nipples. Almond milk products contain thickeners, preservatives, and flavorings that are added to improve flavor, texture, and shelf life. We are not shelf-stable beings. That same government entity won't allow the public to consume raw cow milk. What? And BTW, it takes one gallon of water to produce one almond.
I have some vegans in my extended family. They feel pretty happy when they consume their pretend meat....with about 20 ingredients and fart their way through the evening. I'll take my single-ingredient ribeye.
