Fuentes, Lee & Iglesias were equally impressive. Fuentes struck out all three of his outs. The one batter that walked was called out on strikes, but overturned by the new ABS system.
The Mets had great success on their challenges. I'm curious how many calls have been overturned this year and how many confirmed.

That seems like an awful lot of missed calls by umpires. I conclude calling balls and strikes is a difficult task. I will not complain as much anymore, although I do reserve the right to "savage" Eric Gregg's incredibly bad calls in the World Series back when.

I think the game was the for the right to go to the WS, not the WS itself.
He had a clear agenda against the Braves. Oddly enough, he never umpired in the majors again. Things that make you go hmmm. To me it was as bad as the White Sox scandal, but from an umpiring side of things. I've never viewed the Marlins 1997 season legit much the same as I view the Michigan 2023 season.
Says he umpired in 98 & 99 before disappearing from the game, but I believe he must not have umpired another Braves game, as I watched them almost every game back then.
I didn't realize that he didn't umpire any more. Maybe he got a big payoff. Helps explain his calls - nobody could be that bad unless it was on purpose. Too bad the Bravos had to be the victims!
It definitely had a huge impact on that series. I feel the Braves take it if not for his blatant manipulation of the game's outcome.
Gregg was part of the disastrous Umpire Strike. That didn't end well for the umps they overestimated what they were really worth.
Most umpires were brought back but a few, including Gregg, were not. A rare chance for MLB to clean house a little and get rid of guys like Gregg and they took it.
Gregg was famous for calling anything a strike as long as it stayed in the ballpark when it was a hot day. He was a really big guy and just wanted to get out of there.
The problem the Braves had that day is they got behind early when Gregg was still calling it a little straight. Then he realizes it's hot and everything is a strike. Leaving the Braves in a position where they are trying to catch up but basically have no shot.
I was furious. The Marlins were a good team that year and may have won anyway. But we should have had a chance at a real baseball game instead of whatever the he77 that was.
53 games left and the Braves have a 7 game lead. Nice win tonight. Acuna with a long one. Saw Olsons defense again. Riley out of the lineup.
Phillies 2-8 in their last 10. They did close the gap I think it got down to 2.5 but predictably they have cooled and its eased back to 7. May eat these words but I dont think they can catch us now.
Good rule of thumb typically teams can only expect to cut a game a week off a lead. 8 weeks left in the season and a 7 game lead. Not a lock but their margin for error is very small now.

Kind of odd - the Braves had only 4 hits but got 5 runs out of them. Ronald - indeed good to see him rounding the bases with that little side step thing he does.
Another oddity, for me, was my namesake, Victor Mederos, giving one of his poorer (relatively) performances and getting the win. The rest of the pen picked Holmes up and were lights out.
To get a comeback win like this, I'd call it gritty, can only help our confidence was we go into the dawg days of summer. Division games are here and they are important.
Wonder who Alex will pull out of his…um, hat at the trade deadline. He's usually good for a surprise or two.
Weight or not, you can't call pitches nearly a foot out of the zone repeatedly and only to one side. I remember him squeezing the zone on our pitcher as well!
Oh I wasnt excusing it. Ill have to watch that game again.
My memory is he was calling it sort of normal or as normal as Gregg could early. But then started calling everything a strike.
Maddux was pitching for us IIRC. Eventually everyone figured out a mile outside was a strike too even for Maddux and no one scored again. But by then we were already behind.
Might be wrong about that.
