With Olson hitting 900 consecutive games played I decided to break out the abacus.
The record is of course Ripken with 2,632. Gehrig is second with 2,130.
2632 - 900 = 1732.
1732 \ 162 = 10.69. Lets call it 10.
So to break Ripken's record Olson would need to start every game for the Braves or whomever until he was 42 years old. Extremely unlikely.
Third place on the list is 1307 games played. I can see Olson making it that far. 3 more seasons or so he will get that one.
Being third on the list all time would be quite the feather in his cap. I think he can do it.
Cal Ripken, jr. was 41 years old when he retired….. still an outside chance….
But you are correct, being third on that list with only Gehrig and Ripken, Jr. ahead of you would be an amazing accomplishment!

Didnt realize he was quite that old but that also makes sense. It is a longevity thing.

This means you could play everyday for 16 years and still not catch Cal. You would still need a quarter of a season.
These kinds of guys are unicorn special. Essentially playing their entire careers never getting injured or missing any time.

I wonder what the "rules" are about a streak like this. If you start a game but don't finish, does the streak stay alive. If so, if he gets a little owie, could he start a game and come right out after one batter or one pitch? '
If he DHs, would that count as a game in the streak? If he PHs, would it count?
