After seeing that Schumann will be attending the draft with Kirby, I think I'm going to have to lean in that direction as far as who would be the next man up after Mel. I think that's a pretty significant gesture.

I think Schumann going to the draft is to boost our recruiting. Seeing both your potential college head coach and position coach at the draft has to hit home for some of these elite players. Although, I'm not saying you're wrong about Kirby looking at Schumann as a potential Mel replacement.

Yeah I agree, its just Kirby didn't send Sherrer to the draft when Floyd went first round. And honestly I haven't noticed if other teams are doing the same?

Final marketing pitch to OP, no?

It's a pride thing, as well as moral support. Just like your parents attending your graduation. You want to be there to celebrate their success, but we're also getting national tv face time by promoting the UGA brand as well. You wanna be the best that you can be? Get drafted by the NFL? Go 1st round? COME TO UGA. How long has it been since we sent at least 10 guys to the draft, much less multiple (possible) 1st round draft picks? You know Roquan, Kirby, and Schumann will be grinning ear to ear. And so will I. But I'm looking forward to ALL of our guys making it! They deserve it. It's a win-win situation for us all.

It definitely cannot hurt! I think OP is in the bag at the point. But I think Kirby and staff has done a good job of always pushing the envelope! I will never forget Big Cat saying we recruited him too hard lolol! Kirby doesn't have an off switch he does things the only way he knows how!

I know there is no doubt everything Kirby does has a recruiting angle. It's just I haven't seen a position coach attend the NFL draft before, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. That'd be like Dell going to the Heisman ceremony if Swift got an invite. Normally you just notice the HC's. I think its very telling of Kirby to "share" the spotlight with a position coach

I know its rare these days but I would love to see some continuity on the coaching staff. Obviously position coaches are gonna come and go but it would be nice to see Tucker stay for a while like Kirby did at Bama. That constant presence of him and Saban had to be responsible for much of Bamas defensive success. If Tucker goes, and who could blame him if it's for an extra couple million on the paycheck, I would like to replace him with a younger guy that is likely to stick around for a while and not someone looking for a stepping stone.

I see where you are coming from. I agree, but I think its a different kind of recruiting tactic. I think Kirby wants to show other coaches that he isn't power hungry and really cares above his coaching staffs development just as much as his players. I think Kirby gets the fact that so often the HC gets all the glory. Bring along one of the staffers. Kirby is always in control but never shows that he has to be.

Besides, as you said this is a grooming opportunity and a chance to expose Schumman to something big time! Plus Kirby doesn't have to constantly tweet it, Schumman can do it for him lol.

It feels so great to have a HC that is just so ahead of the game, always thinking one step ahead. Very refreshing.

    Try this analogy:

Schumann is the classroom teacher with a full class of students, but one sometimes ends up being more "special" and stands out above the others, which is Roquan. Schumann is going to support and witness that special student's success and hard work finally paying off big time for them.

Then Kirby is the school principal, moral support and pride applies here, as well as promoting UGA on a higher level. But on the flip side, he's putting our draft stock on the same level (or higher) as Bama now, and the whole world is going to recognize that. Like he said, "We're a force to be reckoned with, and we're not going anywhere." Just seeing Kirby's face on tv will speak volumes, especially to recruits.

A different look on why Schumann is coming is it also plays into our hand for promoting the image of "We've traveled all across the country with you, and we're still here for you, we really care about you and we support you from start to finish, no matter the distance." Kirby is pushing the 'build long-lasting relationships on & off the field' image, and so far it's working. Recruits will be picking up on that too. Our coach is a GENIUS at marketing the UGA brand. >:)

These things eventually will happen. CKS gave each & every one of his assistants very healthy pay raises to hold this off... for now. I think CKS has a "Rolodex" that he updates with potential replacement assistant coaching talent at each position pretty often "just in case"

Maybe Roquan wanted Schumann to come to the draft and asked Kirby if it was ok. Thought it was nothing more than that.

Either way, we're making a bigger name for UGA now.

Might Herr Schuman be visiting some TX prospects while he is out there?
