GREAT POST!!! GO DAWGS!!!
Have i said anything that would disagree with what you said. My only problem with anything in this thread was people saying there was no way UF could beat us.
Here’s the thing I know we play them at the end of October but Mullen still got to pick a QB and I don’t think his options are that great. Franks a sophomore who only had flashes of being great but still not a great passer. Then you have the freshman options which puts you at square one again. To top that off the amount of play makers on the offensive side of the ball are not many. I think James Robinson is the best receiver and an okay RB but not much else.
Also they are replacing a couple of their top Dlineman which one is projected to be late 1st or early 2nd round.
Dawgs will run through UF defense worse than last year. Only question mark is can UF find an offense under Mullen and how will the Dawg D have jelled by late October.
Ill take talent over experience all day. esp in d1 sports where the talent gap is so vast.
dominant is a relative term...sony embraced the work ethic that chubb had along with a realistic shot of what could be ...there example was tg3....having guys on your team that have the $talent, drive, brains....and day 2 day grind discipline to sacrifice what it takes ....rubbs off on some...lot of power 5 guys have the talent...but little or none of the other things mentioned...from everything we know about white...he has that chip on my shoulder, herschel, chubb, or even thomas brown type work ethic. Its rare...but a tough lifestyle to embrace...I would say that trait of mental discipline is what separates white from that other guy you mentioned.
All acl injuries are not created equal...if he has some injury prone thing...thats another story...but it wasn't a tg3 or chubb type injury...white finished that game if i remember correctly. With todays tech He should recover fine.
I agree cook is a wild card at this point..but with the pitt boss and his great wall ...a smaller back may not get much early contact allowing him to shine a bit...who knows....
holyfield has great vision and can block if he has the discipline to study and put in the work ...I agree his struggles to pick it up have kept him off the field...but with swifts emergence behind chubb and sony ...i am anxious to see if his discipline pics up now that he can get some run.
again ill say roquan is a uga legend...and has pro bowl potential ...but check the rose bowl film...he got bullied a good bit ...but hey ....he is a rich man walking. (side note ...i didn't think I would ever be so happy as to have jarvis w comeback from the left coast.... same feeling when roquan chose then spurned the left coast to stay home)
Dan Mullen could have walked into the UF locker room the day of the Cocktail Party this past fall, read the playbook during warmups, and the result would have been significantly better. Wouldn't have been competitive, but the offense would have had a pulse. McElwain was the worst gameday coach in the SEC last year, and they just replaced him with one of the best.
I don't think UF is up for a division run, but we will not have many, if any, opportunities to beat a Mullen coached Florida team like we beat them last year.
Not all guys play right away with heavy minutes... but for the last 5 years there are quite a few 5-star guys who've done quite well.
From last year's freshman class:
Najee Harris looks legit. Cam Akers was a 1000 yard rusher. We know what Deandre Swift did.
Jury is out on Stephen Carr and Khalan Laborn.
2016:
Miles Sanders looks like a miss. He was the only 5-star on 247 at RB.
2015:
Damien Harris has 2 1000 yard seasons.
Soso Jamabo looks like a miss.
2014:
Leonard Fournette, Sony Michel, Dalvin Cook and Joe Mixon were all excellent.
Roc Thomas was a miss.
2013:
Kelvin Taylor was a 1000 yard back.
Thomas Tyner, Keith Ford and Derrick Green were misses.
Those are the 5-star backs for the last 5 years. 9 were very productive. Jury is still out on 2. 5 were misses. It's a greater than 50% hit rate.
Grantham as their DC doesn't scare me much. Anyone remember 'Third and Grantham?'
I agree Mullin could have done far more with the roster UF had last year, and he'll do more with this year's roster than their old staff would have.
I won't say we can't dominate them though, I won't put a ceiling on our staff and roster.
We can't judge how competitive UF will be this season based on last year though, Mullin is a huge X-Factor.
Ah, I wish for the good old days.....Back when Dooley went 17-7-1 vs. UF....won 14 of 17 from 1971 to 1988....and went on a 12-2 run from 1974-1988. When we won, it was expected. When we lost, we were like....What in tarnation just happened?!
