Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Regarding AA and gaining weight: I have a close friend whose younger brother plays at GaSo. They force feed those kids down there to maintain weight let alone gain so I can't imagine what type of nutrition plan they have AA on. Plus they want good weight so that's more so on the S&C side of things. It could take him a couple years if not several to get where he wants to be.
I guess we don't have whatever they are putting in the water up at Lil Ole Clempson. They don't seem to have probs with guys putting on weight. Must be the waterslide. 🙄
One thing I found interesting while visiting Arkansas with my son is meeting with the football team's dietitian.
They monitor everything. Weight before and after practice. Daily calorie intake.
But some guys are on tightly monitored meal plans - some for weight loss and some for weight gain. Supplements, protein shakes and their own specifically prepared meal. The money being spent is insane.
When I played the schlorship athletes definitely ate better than the regular students. But We all ate the same thing- football, basketball, volleyball, whomever. No special meals
I swear this is true. A guy I used to coach with is from AL and he told me of a local HS coach near where he grew up that fed his kids "calf - starter" feed to help put on weight. I know he wouldn't lie to me so perhaps we need to send a sack of that to the S&C folks to give Adam. /s
Worth a shot! That's actually an interesting discussion..perhaps for the Barber shop: things that coaches/S&C guys used to swear by before all the current research/advances.
Heck I'm sure there's probably plenty of guys around still using their tried and true methods. Wonder if pickle juice is still around?
I wondered if big programs used an app like MyFitnessPal or something like that to log calories.
Don't know the answer. But so much is monitored.
We all know about the GPS system used during practice.
Considering you can buy an Apple watch with a built in GPS, EKG, and HR monitor off the shelf for a few 100 bucks, I'm sure these dudes have some pretty amazing tech on or around them 24/7.
I'm sure calorie tracking is the tip of the iceberg. Probably sleep monitoring and stuff I can't even think of.
Edit: I ain't getting into the Apple watch thing again. Plenty of other fitness trackers out there. I just mentioned the Apple as it's currently the only mass market one with an ECG. And yes. I AM apparently a very metrosexual man since I have one. 😉
Yeah the GPS stuff is still crazy to me but it definitely resonates. I got one a few years ago when my wife and I started working out pretty regularly. It shows your heart rate, speed, calories burned, distance traveled etc. Before we had them I'd always tell her she could do more and she wasn't working as hard as I was. Of course, she'd get super irritated until we read the logs after a workout and I was at 90% max heart rate twice as long as she was. You find out whose slacking that's for sure
