Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Didn't stars and stripes victor over the stars and bars. Would think we should celebrate the flag no???
Parkinson’s made Ali a sympathetic figure. He would not have been as celebrates at his death without that Olympic torch moment in Atlanta. He’s just not someone I brand as a hero. Colorful sports personality? Definitely. If Ali is a hero then so is Jane Fonda.
Disagree. To the african american community he's a hero. He spoke out against a draft and a war he didn't believe in. The first step to me of being a hero is that you see or feel something isn't right and you act against.
I understand a lot of veterans on this post. I am thankful for the service you guys have done/are doing. But to call these men or any other men losers is very hurtful. A lot of things get mixed and twisted in these discussions. You can't see the life of others and know how they feel about things. Those who think these people are doing wrong how do you feel about police injustices on African Americans, the fact Ole Miss University is allowing a whote supremacist group to come on campus and rally once a month (Ole Miss also has a deep history of racism), etc... Yes a lot of people see kids on knees and think its disrespectful but a lot of my coworkers have used these as a way to open up conversations about what/why/how things are in areas I grew up in that they wouldn't normally understand.
Yes, and so is Colin Kaepernick. Im familiar with his actions. He’s also a hero to the Islamic American community. So he’s a hero to two overlapping special interest groups but he falls short in my book.
How do I feel about police injustices on African Americans? Terrible, when one actually occurs but Im tired of the big lie about police brutality and racial biases. Whites are more likely to be killed by police than blacks. Unaarmed victims of police ahootings, while heavily publicized, make up too small of a sample size to draw any conclusions regarding bias. These account for about 45 people a year. The rest are almost universally the result of armed engagements. The disproportionate percentage of police use of force against blacks is a DIRECT result of the disproportionate amount of violent crime in the black community. The NFL players who took a knee for the anthem are feeding a false narrative.
And
Do not agree with the supremacist side either, but they have the same right to protest peacefully. I'm sure they too are called loser among other things. Free speech doesn't necessarily mean intelligent speech.
Have a link to the Ole Miss issue? I googled but couldn't seem to find it.
The great thing about our country is you can express your displeasure with the actions of your country via peaceful protest (like not standing for the national anthem) and not be kicked out of the country or imprisoned.
It's called freedom. It's great.
There's a term for what you describe - it's called "Identity politics" and it's extremely toxic and divisive.
I think ANY injustice is a travesty. One of the pillars of our county is a fair and just judicial system. But I don't think you get the results that you want by alienating a large portion of the country by performing an act that they see as disrespectful to a symbol of the country that they love. I know that people say kneeling is a sign of respect, and in most instances it is. However, it is not the way we show respect to the flag.
I want every American citizen to get, and expect, the same treatment, and opportunity, as everyone else.
As for the white supremacists, as another has stated, they have the same rights as any other group. Freedom of speech ESPECIALLY applies to speech that is divise.
I didn’t know what it is either. But I just Googled a little. At first glance, this seems a pretty fair portrayal.

They don’t say why the anthem kneelers consider the pro-confederacy group a hate group till pretty far down into the story. Apparently because the “pro-confederates” don’t want a confederate monument moved, that means they’re a hate group.
If the basketball players just wanna kneel that one time, if I were the coach I’d probably let them do it. Not because they’re not making fools of themselves. But just because I’d figure there’s no way I’d be able to explain sense to these kids if they’re that out of it. And just letting them kneel would at least minimize grousing.
Hmm. I'm not sure I would say a group not wanting a statue to be moved equals a white supremacist group holding monthly rallies. When I think of white supremacist groups I think KKK or neo nazis but this is "current year" so who knows.
Even NAZI symbols survive as a part of history. Nobody worth spitting on wants them memorialized as if it was an honorable or just part of history though. I feel the same about Confederate history.
So individual rights are now "identity politics" and toxic and divisive.....uh ok
