Pickens was committed to the barn almost two years before flipping to UGA on signing day. I’ve got to believe Kirby and staff have a couple of top guys still on the line to make up for these late misses.
Sometime we as fans forget about the talent that’s already committed and want to look to see “who’s next”. Broderick, Milton, Sherman, Jalen, Kimber, Rosemy, Tate, Braun, SVP, Brinson, Stack, Lindberg and Beck is a h3ll of a hall already. If this class finished with Ringo, DW, and Smith, it would be an amazing class. Throw in Theo and Manning and it would be one of the best.
This is spot on. I don’t think fans realize that their views on things aren’t the same as the parents and players making decisions.
We’ve beaten them 12 of the last 15. While the games are usually a battle, it hasn’t been much of a rivalry the last 15 years.
I don’t say that to discount what you’re saying. Just pointing out that our guys want to win that game just as badly as the Georgia boys in the Auburn team want to win.
Walker!?! ****. awbarn paying folks again? **** just ****
Nonplussed about Zy. Wish him well, but I hope that means good things brewing about Burch. I think we’d all prefer him anyway.
We’re gonna hit on some of this big time recruits and feel ridiculous for ever doubting the staff. Stay patient and keep chopping. Go Dawgs!
That was never an “either/or” though. Burch always has had a spot if he wants it.
5 DL was going to be a lot with Zy and Burch. Especially with the 5 young kids coming off redshirts.
I HAVE to believe that this means Burch is in the class. I just have to.
With that... a TE is next. Big Darnell or Theo is going to drop the commit at any time.
It’ll be very interesting if we whiff on both Walker (whose slow played recruiting has been well documented) AND Burch after having passed on Cowan (who Larry Johnson, one of the best in the business, desperately wanted), Ojulari (who Coach O went all in on and who I have long believed to be criminally underrated), and Hardy. Don’t get me wrong; I have never thought we would get Burch but striking out on all these kids and getting caught with your pants down when you could have had sure things at a position of need is not a good look IMHO.
I think Kurgan smells what I was stepping in. I’m hoping it meant Zy didn’t want to compete with Burch for reps; not that they both wouldn’t have spots.
I agree missing on ZW as a player isn't the end of world...the problem is if the staff were very surprised by it...if they were caught unaware by the fact that Auburn (and possibly Florida) were ahead of us in his pursuit. This, combined with the miss on Sewell, leaves me concerned about how valid their optimism for other high recruits is when there is smoke from other programs that those players are trending in their direction.
I wanted someone, anyone, to commit more than I wanted Walker in particular.
What makes you think they were surprised or unaware about where they stood? We’re consumers of speculation on this forum. In Kirby & Co. we trust.
Strange how some can legit feel like their recruiting preferences, based on limited info and a healthy dose of speculation, are better options than what appears to be the strategy of the best recruiting staff in the country.
With Ojulari, UGA was only taking 1 OLB, so there was not a spot. I agree that he has the potential to be a great player in college and I would have been excited if UGA has pushed for and landed him.
The staff has other targets they are after, so to say they are getting caught with their pants down, is way beyond a stretch. Z Walker would have been a nice piece, but wasn’t a must have. This class will be a great one and there is no need to worry about missing out on a single recruit like Walker. All schools miss, all of them.
The overwhelming prevailing view that he was a UGA lock within the media that covers recruiting leads me to believe that. If there was an inkling he was going elsewhere insiders within the program would have started to leak it to lay the foundation before his decision and soften the blow especially coming off of an official visit.
I guess there’s only one thing left to do.... win the whole fu**ing thing
Then we get to pick any recruits we want right?
Seems as if Jermaine Burton recently visited UGA. Low key kind of visit, and I can only be good news. Kirby flip special??
