Coley is a GREAT recruiter. He is a key reason why we have a lot of those Miami native players on our team. Our scoring offense was best in Georgia history under Bobo (with a great balance of passing and power like Smart likes).

Conclusion - bring Bobo in as an analyst like Jay Johnson.

Not sure I am reading your post correctly. Are you saying that the last time Bama beat Clemson it was close. And thier “new, evolved offense” kept it close last year? Is that what you are saying?

  • Kdubb0211Kdubb0211 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

No the first time they faced off with Jake Coker at QB that was old school Bama and it took all they had to beat Clemson. Onside kick and all. The next year Hurts came in and the offense changed. Clemson won but had Bama not changed their offense that game would have been way different. Probably about how it was last year.

Totally disagree that they changed their offense with Hurts. They changed their philosophy with Tua. With Hurts vs Clemson in 2017 they played D and ran the ball and whipped Clemson 24-6. (Hurts threw 24 times for 120 yards). Then they “evolved” with Tua and lost by 28 to Clemson. Tua threw 34 times for 295 yards. That is a 50 point swing in the wrong direction after their “evolution”. Lots of accolades from ESPN the past 2 years but no Championship and no playoffs this year. Seems like the boring ol blueprint for Saban was much more effective to me. 🤷‍♂️

Do you think Bama's offense under McElwain and Nussmeier was the same as it was under Lane Kiffin? I view that change as the beginning of their offensive evolution and Kiffin's willingness to open things up is the only reason Bama was able to outpace Clemson in their first game when Watson was helming their offense. Again with the use of OU as a strawman, as though the offense is the reason for their lack of success as opposed to their defense (though this year TOs by the offense is what has really put them in a bind). I will ask you a counter "How has Clemson's offense worked out for them?" Gotten the 2 national championships and a few plays away from another. "How has OSU's offense worked out for them?" Gotten them to a position where the Big 10 Championship game result will have no impact on whether they get into the playoffs. I use the Clemson and Ohio State examples because these teams are successfully meshing explosive offenses with dominant defenses...something defenders of the old Bama style don't want to acknowledge can happen. "How has the LSU's offense worked out for them?" Finally gotten them over the hump against Bama something we have yet to do. If we had a more dynamic offensive in the our last two games against Bama and been able to keep our foot on the gas pedal maybe we wouldn't have blown two massive leads...or we wouldn't be in a position this year where our offensive fate is so heavily dependent of the presence or absence of a good but not great player, Lawrence Cager.

citing this year is very short sighted. OSU has run the same offense for years. They dominate the Big10 and then, nothing. Props for beating Bama 1 year. Not saying that high powered offenses can’t win. Just saying playing D, running the ball and controlling the clock is the best way to win championships. Just ask Oklahoma.

  • Kdubb0211Kdubb0211 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

Oklahoma has no defensive players like teams in the sec. OSU and Clemson have still been in the playoffs more than we have. OSU Clemson and LSU still run the ball. They all also play decent to good defense. You have to have an offense that can score no matter how it’s ran. Idc if we run the triple option as long as we score 6 and not 3. The more spread offenses score points and are more suitable for scoring points. That’s the way the game has evolved, maybe you get a year where your defense is just generational and you win that way. However the odds are stacked against you.

And here's my answer again...their evolution took away a Georgia natty in the 2017 dream season. Maybe with help from the refs too, but their offense completely changed around when they put Tua in. They put him in and ran a ton of one read RPOs and Georgia wasn't ready for him.

So, yes, their evolution stole a Georgia national championship. So, it's already done enough. I also said in the other post that Saban coaching choices (which are looking familiar by Kirby on the offensive end) likely costed Saban a title last year. But he still got one with the playmaker in Tua, and I'd say in the today era, a playmaker QB has become completely crucial, because I'd say Lawrence is a playmaker QB too.

You still need defense, but the playmaker QB has become vital too. If Georgia loses today, all 4 teams that are going to be in will have playmakers. The defense story is why I think Ohio State is heavy favorites for it all.

    We handed it to them.

Tua was so effective because we played soft to try to protect the lead.

Still worked and took away our natty...what looks to be of now probably the only realistic shot with Kirby because 2018 and 2019 haven't been it...

  • Dawg53Dawg53 ✭✭✭✭ Senior

Wow, you honestly think 2017 was our best chance at a title? Just wow! I don’t even have words. Keep watching ESPN and regurgitating what they say.

    Yes.

2018 just didn't have it because of how the front 7 played. It was not going to beat Clemson even if it beat Alabama.

2019 doesn't have it because for some reason, Fromm has regressed to garbage this year.

I fear what 2020 looks at this point... I don't think Fromm is the answer anymore, plus you have Bama early, which based off this, will probably be a total body slamming. If Kirby doesn't do anything, I think these are warning shots to a coming backslide. Recruiting has already responded in starting to question it. He truly is at a crossroads and this board isn't seeing it.

As of now, especially if Grantham leaves Florida and Kirby doesn't do anything, I would pick Georgia at 9-3 and Florida winning the game next year even with less talent.

Think what needs to happen is everyone gone offensively except McGee, Fromm forced out, just start over with a grad transfer QB next year.

😂😂😂😂😂. Ok, have a good evening. 9-3 next year. Marking down your sharp analysis.
