Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Covid-19

As someone who differs politically from most people on Dawgnation, it is very hard to read this thread without seeing things that upset me because they regurgitate conservative talking points. I personally don't know what liberal talking points on Covid19 are and I don't care. I promise nothing I say will be from any perspective other than analytical. Here are my thoughts and I don't give a rats behind about left/right perspectives on Covid19 or anything else.
Covid19 is not TEOTWAWKI. It is also not something to be ignored. Beyond the death rates, the reason why it is important to address it early as early steps make much more of a difference than later steps. All the efforts we undertake now should about flattening the curve of Covid19 spread. Here is a great article about it: https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/03/11/greta-thunberg-urges-strikers-unite-behind-science-and-join-digitalstrike-best
Many of you may dislike Greta Thunberg even though she has never attacked anyone who disagrees with her the way she has been eviscerated and had sexual assault images of her posted by companies who disagree with her. But, if you read the article, you will see nothing she says is dramatic or confrontational and that is exactly the approach to Covid 19 we should have. Thunberg says, "I personally recommend doing what the experts say." That's not radical and it is not left or right. It is about respecting the science and flattening the growth curve of Covid19. It is not about alarm or denial. It is not about getting clicks or reelection. It is listening to the experts and following their advice. The experts don't say ban Europeans especially when the UK with 590 Covid19 cases is exempt but countries like Croatia with 19 are not exempt (and on a per capita basis UK has a 200% higher level of Covid19 than Croatia for those who want to say but Croatia has less people) . That is not science that is politics. Politics has no place in our response to Covid19.
To flatten the curve, we should:
What we really need in terms of world leadership is helping us be calm, helping us take the sensible and effective actions that reduce transmission and prevent the spread of Covid19. What we DON'T need is sensationalism from the media scaring us and we don't need anyone saying everything is fine and it will go away on its own nor do we need anyone creating a travel ban based on nationality. My personal safety has been put at risk by the travel ban and I'm livid about that, but my situation is very particular and not relevant, but it angers me that blaming others and ineffective solutions that hurt our economy and hurt me personally are being deployed instead of more effective strategies such as promoting effective avoidance strategies and early detection and treatment. I would sing Trump's praise if he had gotten on national TV and asked everyone to do the self-test I describe above every day and if you can't do it, see a doctor and then to do it himself and show everyone. That would be great leadership. That would give us all something we can do and calm our country down and stop the unnecessary hysteria. That would stop the spread of Covid19. But taking political solutions and not handling the crisis well compounded by sensational media is what drives fear in the markets and elsewhere that we are not responding well to Covid19 and that it will get worse before it gets better.
One thing I absolutely hate is when the left or the right accuses the other side of saying the other side wants bad things to happen. NO!!! Everyone wants Covid19 to go away as fast as possible. There is no narrative, there is no win from Covid19 spreading. The only win is when we come together and "do what the experts say."
Yeah I edited post above too big. Vid explained in detail how they think the bug works, travels, latches on etc.
I posted on the most important part which is how to prevent infection based on what is currently known.
The point about not touching your face is a great one. Many of the things they tell you to protect yourself are easy enough. But not touching your face? You probably do that all day long without even thinking about it. I even saw a video of a health official telling the public about ways to prevent corona. She says "don't touch your face", then in a little bit she proceeds to lick her finger to turn the pages of her notes. You had to laugh.
.... I searched, it didn't take long to find. Many examples right here.
It is amazing how something like a viral pandemic has political, ideological differences.
If I have the opinion "getting hit by cars isn't a big deal and we shouldn't worry about looking before crossing a street" you wouldn't immediately call that out as dangerous and not to be tolerated?
Michigan and Ohio State cancelled all recruiting activity? Do you think we will as well?
Going on a cruise is your business. I wouldn't interfere (and, yes, I'm a medical professional, the kind with MD after my name), but I would point out a couple of things.
You might not get sick but you might be stuck on the water a lot longer than you'd like if and when others get sick.
You have, on a cruise, an increased risk of being in a petri dish with some bad bugs. And, catching stuff.
Depending on the length of the cruise you could catch this virus but not be showing signs and symptoms until you're home. By then you're might be infecting your parents and others you, assuming you're remotely normal, don't want to infect.
You could also become infected without ever developing any signs or symptoms or none which seem to you to be noteworthy, and carry the illness to everyone you encounter.
Obviously there is a great deal we don't know yet, but what we do know makes this a rather scary virus.
It seems to me we should all take it seriously and do what we can to stay healthy and keep our families, friends, and community healthy to the degree we can. Exactly what that means is yet to be determined. Plenty of people above my pay grade are doing their best to figure it out.
I wouldn't be going on a cruise.
Go, Dawgs!
I respect you for being level headed, but you have not called out bank for making personal attacks. I'm frustrated that people blinded by political ideology are downplaying the seriousness of this situation. It's irresponsible for them to act that way, but you're right I should do better and be above that.
Couldn't make it play.
@DGDinNYC Nice to have a just a touch of some tiny morsels of humor in here. I think that helps us all. This is pretty serious stuff. Prayers for everyone, even those poor Buckeyes, and Wolverines too. Bless their hearts.
Yeah it is dumb. Now imagine I tried to spread that information and some people believed it. That'd be pretty frustrating wouldn't it?
