- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Now tell me what Texas has done historically?... The Yankees are the most valuable MLB franchise, but they haven't won in 12 years. I guess they should just pay their players league minimum until they start winning again.
And yes, it's the product on the field. Texas doesn't invest all that money to go 6-6, do they? Also, I never argued that some universities are getting terrible ROI (Texas being the biggest one). Just like any other business, you can invest heavily, build a nice brand historically, and still fail in the long run (Blockbuster, Pan-AM, etc). Nothing is guaranteed, and it's why we play the game.
NIL = Freedom
America = Freedom
NIL = America
you don't like NIL? Move. The Chinese government has complete control over their athletes from diapers through their athletic careers. Might be better for some of you
Because I believe it will ruin the college game. It will basically run most programs out of business as they won't be able to keep up with the spending. The NFL recognized it was a serious problem and made new rules...why does anyone think it won't be a problem in college?
You literally just said that if you don’t perform you won’t make money. Texas hasn’t performed in about 20 years except for maybe 1 year. And they’re number 1 in money. Why does MLB limit what teams can spend. nFl too?
Freedom is also burning cities down now too. Guess that’s ok
What rules did the nfl make about nil?
what? did some athletes burn a city down over NIL?
Every business in America operates by a set of economic regulations established by state and federal laws.
Got a credible link to that $30 million claim? Also, that would be $350k/player average for 85 players.
They limited player salary. They implemented a draft to ensure that each team had a fair opportunity to get the best players. Then they had milti-year contracts that players were obligated to fulfill. These ensured that a big market teams couldn't just go out and throw a ton of money at the best players and create a super team, and they couldn't poach other teams players mid-contract. They did a lot of things to prevent the type of stuff we are seeing with NIL already.
College athletes aren't treated as employees though. Unless you are suggesting they should be treated as employees? Yeah, boosters guaranteeing money to recruits is a problem. It's a small one but still should have some rules against it. I think it'll settle down on its own even if they do nothing to stop it. These boosters just want to see their favorite team win. If that doesn't happen quick enough you'll start seeing less money being thrown around and only players performing in college will get paid as part of a true advertising campaign.
Edit: I don't understand what you're trying to say here. Your statement is a truism. Everyone was already operating under that assumption, so I'm not sure how stating that means anything? We are discussing what the regulations should be not whether they exist or not
Ya’ll are getting silly. 🤣
As for me, I think true NIL income is a good thing… as well as the ability to insure star players. Would Herschel have returned for his senior season had he been able to be insured against injury and able to make some money off of his NIL? Perhaps… long ago, that was my hope for these changes. However, without reasonable governance, this has all become quickly perverted into something else entirely.
You get to stay in Freedom loving America
These are essentially endorsement deals, so universities aren't spending any money on NIL. Like I told PG earlier, you need to get these players on the university payroll if you want to set caps. NFL/MLB don't have salary caps for endorsement deals.
You don't think Texas' revenue would increase even more if they were winning NCs at Bama's rate? Also, I didn't say you wouldn't make any money, I said revenue would drop. Big difference between $0 and millions.
There are rules to prevent talent hoarding in college and lack of playing time is also a big factor in talent distribution
