The Braves strength and conditioning standards are the lowest in the league. I think its part of the "players culture" ATL has. Anyone can see it too, the best examples are the before and after comparisons.
Take Matt Kemp for example, an MVP caliber player, comes to ATL, gets fat and su-cks. Google Matt Kemp in a Dodger uniform. Or more recent…Marcel Ozuna…google photos of Marcel in a Marlins uniform. Or Adam Verdugo… in a Red Sox uniform. Orlando Arcia…in a Brewers uniform. So many examples those are just a few off the top of my head. Most of our pitching staff has beer bellies.
What should they do? Adopt any other team's strength and conditioning program. Call up Coach Johnson and adopt his philosophy. At least the dawgs players were jacked, even though we came up short this year.
so no hard evidence beyond “vibes?”
So mostly it's their heavier as older players than they were as younger players? Has Mark Richt lost control of the Braves' weight?
You can’t tell if players are in shape? And there was the quote mentioned from A’s outfielder.
I’m sure there’s plenty of examples of players leaving ATL and getting in better shape too, because they had to. But just because you’re older doesn’t mean you automatically gain weight, or should get a pass for it as a MLB player.
My point is, for pro athletes, there’s no excuse for a team allowing you to change uniforms and pack on a beer belly.
Good thing no one told this to Babe Ruth.
Haha…this post perfectly illustrates my point about the Braves mentality.
well you were speaking definitively like you had evidence or read a report on the issue. Maybe you’re right and they have the worst program, but there’s not any real evidence beyond your own opinion is what I’m saying.
Well yeah, I did insinuate that and I could gather better evidence if it was necessary, or had time to, from former and current players I know who have played for the Braves. However, not necessary, when I have hundreds of hours watching games. For example, If you’re a shortstop playing at the big league level for two years with a beer belly, eventually it’s going to cost you, Orlando Arcia.
source: trust me, bro
Haha
I have noticed, several times this year, how Michael Harris' extra weight has kept him from leaping up and taking away home runs from hitters. /s
Braves have a team option on Sale next year. Would hate to see him go it's not his fault the team stinks. Would have to think a contender would pay huge for him.
Basically anyone not named Acuna would be available were I the GM. Acuna in spite of his immaturity is a special player that would be hard to replace.
Even our best players led the way. After about 1999, Chipper was never in shape, 80% hustle at best. After Andruw’s first couple seasons, he was never in shape, notorious for being lazy…Never came close to the potential he showed in 1996.
All part of our ultimate problem…Bobby ball. As a Mets fan, I know you don’t need me blowing the whistle and waking up Braves Country. However, I will not be silenced…FREE SPEECH…BRAVES COUNTRY, WE NEED A REVOLUTION!
could’ve been coming off the steroids for those guys. Allegedly.
No one silenced you Patriot…keep throwing up those hypotheses…we’re just discussing things. RELEASE THE FILES!!
So in 2021 all the players were fat and out of shape and they still won the World Series?
There are two distinct era's for the Atlanta Braves. 1966 when the team moved to Atlanta thru 1990. Then 1991 thru today. That first one they were the worst franchise in Baseball. Since 1991 love them or hate them they have been one of the best. In fact if you add up wins since 1991 the Braves probably top that list. Lots of sports dont have a playoff the regular season is the playoff. Under that system the Braves would have more titles the last 30+ years. More than 2 for sure. And it's really the most honest way to find the best team. Not just who gets hot at the end.
Your theory doesn't hold any water where I am sitting.
