I have already moved on. I have adapted my life to the new reality by not going out other than to exercise daily and go to the store when necessary. We bought an additional refrigerator very early on so that my wife can shop one day per week rather than me go to the store 3-5 times a week. I (we) will continue to adapt as that reality changes. For example Jacksonville has instituted a mandatory mask policy so we are contemplating driving to a Publix there to do our shopping. Even though the infection rate there is higher than Nassau county the fact that masks are required may make it safer than the Publix locally.
If Drive-in movie theaters make a resurgence we would go there. In the fall we will likely go to a restaurant in off-peak hours when the temperature makes outdoor dining bearable. We will make our trip to Tampa and go to the Casino when cases drop below 100 in Hillsborough County. Vacation will be driving instead of flying and cruises are something that we will only do when US daily cases fall to 5k per day.
The country as a whole will only "move on" when the vast majority accept the new reality and look forward instead of keep looking back. That will require leadership in all levels of government.
So Texas implements mandatory mask statewide as of today. To avoid being labelled a naysayer next week I will be watching and expecting a decline in cases but not next week. My thoughts are:
Cases - will begin to decline July 20th
Hospitalization - continue to increase until begin to decline August 1st
Deaths - continue to increase until begin to decline August 11th.
All data based on 7 day moving average.

By the time it is under "control" there won't be anything to come visit.
Reminds me of years ago I was a Manager with AT&T and during a strike I heard the Union president telling the picketers they were getting $10 for groceries that week but "WE" can hold out forever. I talked to some of the members later and they didn't know he was being paid by the Union and their dues and of course could hold out forever.
Totally different economies and again we only know how hard they really locked down based on what you hear in the news. Didn't Japan just concentrate on the "at risk" and do well?
I see you want to make it political, but that is ignoring the statistical evidence. You really have to try hard to do so. Florida announced their reopening plans on April 29th. As with Georgia, there was the expected uptick in new cases. Same with Texas, which has been open quite a while now. Now all are experiencing a huge surge, but neither is happening two weeks after opening. What happened two weeks ago? Yelling and screaming in the streets by a bunch of people who apparently didn’t know they were supposed to carry a spray bottle with them to wet their masks. Dishonest to blame your Governor or Trump for what happened two weeks ago that resulted in this coincidental surge in cases.
Absolutely, just hard to figure out who's own interests somewhat match mine.
I personally am not ready to look at my teenage daughters and tell them the country and society and culture I grew up in no longer exists.
Folks can concede to this thing, and maybe you are fine with doing that, Den. That's your call and it may be a more responsible take on all this.
I think the majority of the citizenry is not prepared to do so - and never will. There is too much life left to live for my kids that involves a lot of the things I have already (and a lot of us have already) done.
I can understand where you are in life and why you feel the way you do. It is very rational and reasonable.
If someone can really guarantee that at the end of 4 weeks it will all be gone. We survived the Hong Kong Flu.

First of all I’m not blaming Trump or DeSantis with anything I’ve been saying all along to my friends all these idiots in the street will cause problems along with all the young people going out . If you could see the dumb people on Ocean Drive in South Beach at night only about two minutes from where I live you would understand what is going on. Second of all I’m a Republican I voted DeSantis and Trump. Third of all Miami has been a hotbed and was lagging behind the rest of Florida to begin with. They were the last one to go into phase 1. All Im simply saying is Carlos Giminez the county mayor is not scared and is willing to shut down a second time regardless of what DeSantis says about moving forward. Cases in Miami Dade County are at an all-time high and hospitalization rates are going up stop putting words in my mouth.

Correct and my wife works for a credit union and has worked from home.
I am English and communicate with my 3 siblings every day. The pubs and restaurants there were closed March 20th and only reopened FOR TAKE-OUT 2-3 weeks ago. They open for dining outside and limited inside tomorrow. The only things open during the lock-down were grocery stores with social distancing etc. and pharmacies. People could only go out to go to those stores period.
I never said that I was conceding to this thing; I am not going to pretend it doesn't exist. At the moment the only tool we have to fight back is to deny it from spreading. As the population as a whole is not prepared to do their part it will continue to thrive. Young people (and others) may think that they are unlikely to die from the virus so have no problem taking a risk they need to realize they are responsible for stopping the economy from recovering. Strange thing is that 16-19 are the least likely to die from the virus but are the most impacted with 23.2% unemployment!
Following previous post the graphs from UK (who probably handled it the worst of the European countries) show what can be done without a vaccine.

Plan = deny it from spreading. Absolutely good plan. In a country of 50 semi-self-governed states under one flag and 1736 combined cultures it's a little complicated.
So, problem is how do do so without:
Forcing FREE business owners to go bankrupt.
Denying service industry people from jobs and forcing them to the unemployment line.
Causing irreversible harm to school-aged kids by denying them the education experience all experts feel is best (citing recent article from American Pediatrician Association).

So, plan should include masks, social distancing WHERE POSSIBLE, washing hands.
But, WHERE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to social distance and not interfere with the above, a choice HAS to be made and not kicked down the road for ___ months wishing for a vaccine...
And, we all get it - Europe is in a better place TODAY than SOME PLACES. That may change in three weeks. And they were in awful shape not long ago. Outside of NYC and a couple of places, they still blew it in comparison to about 95% of our country.
And, nobody knows yet what effect their longer lock down will have on their economy and mental state moving forward.
The good people of Union County SC to our east have had 83 cases and no deaths. And they are facing a year of no sports and a greatly modified education system. Their teetering economy is about to collapse due to a threat that does not exist to them and statewide decisions that affect all they know. Not sure how many on this board know what poor Southern cultures and economies look like, but most people are a paycheck away from going hungry.
Those results do not prove that they have handled this the correct way. It is believed the spread in Albany GA occurred because of a small handful of people from NY who attended a couple of funerals. It doesn’t take many cases to multiply in to a bunch. Does England have zero cases now that they are reopening? Or do they still have cases that will be likely to multiply? With that in mind - are you prepared to have EVERYONE hunker down until we get to ZERO cases?
If contact tracing were really that effective then we wouldn’t need a flu vaccine
Quarantines have also shown evidence of being incredibly unhealthy. This is a no-win situation. The solutions being attempted are not only incredibly destructive, but also complete folly.
“Deny it from spreading.” Precisely. I don’t believe an open economy and denying the virus from spreading are mutually exclusive. Having both at the same time turns on people doing the things that help deny the virus its ability to spread- proper masking/hygiene/distancing. If people won’t take it upon themselves to do this voluntarily, I’m not sure what we expect the government to do, other than take steps to restrict human interaction and/or impose masking requirements.
