What's it like to have two trees that close together?
Cracked me up for dinner reason. 🤣
Nice reference! Well done.
When I think of 2001 I always think of three things: (1) the ape tossing the bone and the scene transitioning to the space ship, (2) HAL, and (3) Zarathustra. Such a beautiful, majestic, iconic film. If I were ridiculously wealthy I would build myself a theatre just so I could view that and share it with family and friends, preferably in IMAX/surround sound.
I'm a big Kubrick fan so I love all of his work, from Spartacus to Eyes Wide Shut and everything in between. The one I still haven't seen is Paths of Glory (1957).
A Clockwork Orange was just as groundbreaking as 2001. Way ahead of its time. Incredible lead performance from Malcolm McDowell. Definitely worth seeing, but also very hard to watch. Brutally violent. Dark. In some ways funnier and scarier than The Shining.
One of the most famous scenes has McDowell strapped into a chair and his eyes held open by metal clamps while he's forced to view something unspeakably awful. There's no doubt Kubrick was having fun with the audience, because that it how you feel watching the movie.
Not sure I am the mood for Clockwork now, 2001 more my mood now. Been watching Youtube music videos of Zarathustra and didn’t realize it started basically with the solar eclipse shot from outer space with the diamond ring blast of light. Awesome experience watching the eclipse a couple years ago and forgot about Z.
Rick Flair use to go into the ring with Z as the introductory music. Maybe Kirby will let the Dawgs come out to it in a night game with the new light show. Maybe new to a new generation and a fun flashback for others.
I started Money Heist. First couple of episodes have me on the hook. Looking forward to the rest of this one.
Fair warning, it's made in Spanish (Spain specifically) and dubbed into English, but well done as to not be a distraction.
Watched a great documentary last night about John Coltrane on Netflix. Trane was doing things in late '65 that were way ahead of the music curve.
2001 Space Odyssey is a masterpiece. A Clockwork Orange is quite twisted and dated, but worth a watch. Here are some other really good Kubrick movies that are worth watching:
Paths of Glory
Lolita
Barry Lyndon
Dr. Strangelove
Full Metal Jacket
Eyes Wide Shut
If you get through those ,The Killing is good and of course one must see Spartacus.
Thanks. I am going to have to watch some of these soon.
I watched a great Netflix documentary last night called 'Satan & Adam'. I don't want to give away who it's about, but it's a fabulous and heart warming story. Don't let the title throw you off.
I started watching Longmire which I believe was suggested to me here. I really like it. I thought it might be one long running story, but it's actually each episode of 1 mystery crime. Kind of like Scooby Doo. Instead of a dog, you have Brett Favre playing a cowboy in Wyoming. Great show so far though.
I watched that several years ago - really liked it.
Did you finish Money Heist? Is it binge worthy?
Blew through it. Fun show, not to be confused with a great show. Plenty of flaws, but it's an enjoyable watch. Definitely recommend.
New Patton Oswalt is really good.
Believe it or not, I am listening to audio books instead of watching TV more than anything else I do. The late (and GREAT) military/spy-novel genre fiction author Tom Clancy is my A #1 absolute favorite author of all time. I believe that I may have now listened to "Without Remorse" at least a dozen times in these last two months.
Loved Clancy - Red Storm Rising was my favorite!
The Jack Ryan series on Amazon is pretty good if you like the books.
