Even if he comes to Atlanta and becomes a perennial all=star, it won't really get me excited because of his foreign roots. 'Merica, Baby!

We all have foreign roots, natives' go back 12,000 years or so, we Europe types only a few hundred or less.

That sounds like something an open-borders California liberal might say.

I'm certainly not in line with today's republicans on this or most any other subject.

Doncic is 19 years old. I don't care how good he was in the Eurotrash League. He won't make a splash next year. If the Mav's finish outside of pick 5 next year then that will be one of the biggest fleecings in NBA history...

Yes, 19 and MVP playing against guys that have been in the NBA. You think Trae young will make a splash trying to be a poor mans steph?

These euro trash players have beat us teams in the past.

Playing Euro-ball together is quite different than playing in an NBA offense against NBA defenses designed to stop them.
Only Dirk has been among the best scorers in The NBA.

I'm reading now that the interest in Doncic may well be as trade bait. The Hawks are apparently getting a lot of interest in the pick from teams who want him. The thinking is The Hawks would trade the rights to Doncic to a team in position to pick Young. The Hawks would end up with Young and more picks or a veteran player to boot.

    That's a BINGO.

With the 6’7” SG from Maryland, the Hawks are building a GS type thing. I wish that extra #1 wasn’t draft protected. It might still work out.

The difference is, where's the defense, other than the 3rd pick, he has potential as a shot blocking outside shooter.

The Hawks GM should be arrested for robbery. Got Young and the Mavericks 1st round pick in 2019 just to move back two spots. Young has super star potential.

    He does at that.
I have close to the same questions as I have with Doncic though. It comes down to whether he can work his game against NBA defenses. I think he can, let's watch and find out.

Yeah this seems like a bad trade to me. This isn’t the NFL, and a lot of people had Doncic as the best player on the board. If the pick weren’t top 5 protected it would be a little better.

Young is much quicker than Doncic, that will matter.
I won't be surprised at all if Young turns out to be a better fit in The NBA.

Next question, do they keep Chocolate Kraut or trade him ?

Dennis wants out. Get whatever you can for him. Don't need a bad attitude messing with the locker room

get more assets...he should yield a couple of 2nd round picks. Not sure, though, if the Hawks want to leave the starting PG position in the hands of a rookie.

The Hawks went for the home run. Doncic will very likely be solid, maybe an all-star. Young has the higher risk, but the potential to be a star in today's 3-point shooting, faster NBA. Who give two poops about his defense. There is a long list of NBA all-timers who could not play defense. They compensated by wearing out the person guarding them. The Hawks drafted shooters, that is today's NBA.

I think trading for a good veteran would be the best move, if it can be done. A good center or another PG and a pick would do nicely.

The GS model is all around position-less players, but they all play good defense except for Curry.

And Young is seen as a Curry for the Hawks...now that does mean that others will have to step up on D

I like Doncic a lot, but getting Young plus a draft pick next year that may well be in the lottery range given the strength in the West, is a move that makes sense to me. The Hawks Plan next year can best be described as Tank 2, so I would look for them to let the youngsters play, lose a lot of games, and head into next year's draft with 3 more first round picks, if Lebron stays in Cleveland (good chance it stays protected if Lebron goes). Not sure what they do with Dennis - seems he has little value in the market today. Perhaps if they keep him and he shows improved shooting and a better attitude next year his market improves if a contender loses their point guard to injury or he is seen as someone who can help a contender at the trade deadline.

I think Atlanta wanted Young anyway. That would mean they get a free 1st rd pick and the player they wanted at #3.

If this is accurate, then the new GM is pretty shrewd. Bodes well for the future if that's the case. It sounds almost Boston-ish.

Word supposedly coming from inside the organization was they'd focused on Young by the week before the draft.
Then some tweets revealed Dallas was interested in Doncic, all of a sudden it was leaked the team was interested in Doncic and a deal was made. It seems likely they wanted Young and played their hand to land an extra 1st rd pick in 2019 that could be as high as #10.
I've said all along I like Young a bit better. The more I focus on his ball handling, passing and driving to the basket while watching his video, the more I like him. The kid understands how to play the game.

Doncic is the surest pick in the NBA draft. He may not blow you away with measurables but his ability to see the court is off the charts. He will make everyone playing with him better. In the NBA he will need to improve his physical conditioning through training and diet to adjust to the rigors of NBA life. With the improved training you should see improvements in speed, lateral quickness, and jumping ability. He also has the ability to become a better shooter under the tutelage of the a strong shooting coach. As a player, he will not be the guy you see with the big dunk on ESPN's top ten plays, but with the right group of players around him, you are likely to see his team among the teams with the best record and playing at the end of the season consistently. I think if the Hawks are confident that they can sign him, he will be the pick.

You were right. Most of the "experts" on this forum didn't really know what they were talking about.

I can assure you that we in Dallas were excited to get Doncic on draft night and we are even more excited to have him now.

Turns out the kid can play.
