BoroDawg I agree. If Flowe were to come to Georgia does anyone think he is going to beat out Nakobe Dean? I can see Dean and Sewell on the field at the same time more than I can see Flowe and Dean.
@fibonaccisquared
You also have to consider the influencers in his life. My grand children live 7 hours away and get to see them maybe once a year (2 max) because it's a long weekend trip. All day there all day back means a 3 day trip to spend a day with them. There's no dropping them off at grandmas to go to the movies. I realize that it's not practical to be 2 hours away but but if you and your wife wants to go away for a long weekend you have to add 2-4 days to shuttle the kid/baby to someone you trust if you are 7 hours away. Help is only a day away is not very reassuring if you're venturing out on a scary journey (first born).
All of that matters granted. Williams will need to consider long term, potentially securing his financial future for both of his kids. This isn’t a 3 year decision. Consider the DBs Grantham has put into the league vs. Kirby. That’s essentially the decision here. That said, what’s going on here is his decision timeline may no longer align with what staff is trying to do. It’s unclear if Williams is a target that Kirby/Warren will wait on; truthfully it doesn’t seem like they will. Tough decision Williams has to make and I don’t envy his position. I’m not sure he’s even a lock for 3 and out but I’m supremely confident that UGA will prepare him better than fu for that moment. We’ll see what he does. He remains the #1 realistic target at S. Chris Thompson was the #1 S target overall from my understanding but we got in too late here.
I am UGA and anti UF but to suggest that a recruit is making a life changing decision between the 2 is somewhat unrealistic. Great-good players will make it wherever they go albeit they may be marginally better off picking 1 versus the other. It may effect his first contract but the real big bucks come after proving themselves in the NFL. The 5* and top recruits have been shared among 3-4 teams the last few years but the drafted players are much more widely distributed. Yes I think he will better off opting for UGA over UF money-wise but it's not the difference between first round or UDFA. Money is not always the answer trust me.
@Denmen185
In general, I’ll buy what you’re selling. Supreme athletes most always get a shot.
Would you say that certain programs (coaches) have more clout with NFL GMs and NFL coaches in terms of player development and NFL readiness? If that answer is yes, that’s essentially what I’m saying. Also while the second contract is the money contract, a player is still financially incentivized on being drafted higher.
Would you say that playing in bigger games, under national exposure, offers a better exposure for a player at UGA or fu today? Who’s scheduling the more marquee games? Who’s more likely to play when everyone is watching? What does the daily competition in practice look like at UGA vs. fu today? Who has the better S&C program? While fu remains a tier 1 program, across the board UGA is better. That “better” equates to being better prepared. Better prepared affords the opportunity to be drafted higher. Drafted higher equates to more money. More money offers an easier path for his situation. I’m sure Avantae would agree.
Combine is the combine and he’ll perform well there, he’s an elite athlete period. Point being, long term, we’re the better option and all of these reasons absolutely matter. It’s the exact reason 4-5 schools land the most elite players every year; the blueprint has been established. May not be enough for Tae as he’s growing up fast and it may be too difficult for him to move away, but we’re the right choice for a player with his upside “today”.
Agree 100% about the need to reinforce the importance of blocking ability at the TE position in a run-heavy offense such as UGA's. I get it - few high schoolers under the age of 20 want to be Trey Burton when they play Madden, they want to be Gronk (!).
ESPN/national media LOVED Gronk, but what's probably lost on many non-Pats fans is that he was a monster in the running game. Any prospect who feels that a TE is only there as a big target is a huge flag for me.
@SoFL_Dawg I’m with you on our facilities and to the coaching staff’s track record, but Florida is hardly a second tier program. Williams would get a shot at the league out of UF assuming he has the skill set. Better question is what will he be able to do with the shot
I called them a tier 1 program and said we’re better in every facet regarding football today. It’s true. I didn’t call them a second tier program, but they’re second to us. There’s levels to this.
Fair enough. I think we all tend to assume that UGA is always the better choice, and while we are right that doesn’t mean our rivals are terrible choices.
Amen to the levels. With what we are spending in comparison I’d be very worried if we weren’t a cut above
In regard to what @SoFL_Dawg said about preparing players for the next level, I’ll take the word of one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time
THE greatest. Belichick has no equal
Not to mention he has backed that up by drafting/signing UGA players.
And trusts another Kirby ex-protege with the green dot on his defense (Dont'a Hightower)
I'm thinking it was an accidental down vote. I was trying to up vote it myself and hit the flag button instead.
Yeah, I just wanted to avoid a debate so I didn’t say THE greatest. Granted, he’s had the benefit of Brady, but Belichick game plans better than anybody. He’s playing chess while most others are playing checkers.
