A little background on my story.
I was born in Pittsburgh, PA where the only excitement we had for college football was for the NFL Draft (huge Steeler's fan). My family moved around the northeast but we ultimately ended up in Savannah, GA when I was in middle school. My best friend growing up, and to this day educated me on SEC Football and I was hooked. Unfortunately I was hooked on Tennessee as my best friend's dad was an Alumni and took us to a lot of games. I grew up hating Georgia.
Low and behold when it came time for college Tennessee wasn't an option due to out of state tuition so I went to GCSU in Milledgeville to figure out my career path. Communications was my desire, and UGA had a great department so I **** it up and went to school there...... Going to school at UGA gave me a connection to big time college football that I didn't have by being a fan that didn't attend the school. Once being on campus, and being apart of the UGA family, I quickly threw out the Tennessee gear for the Red and Black. I have been hooked ever since my admission letter. GO DAWGS!
@milldawg007 , love the shout-out for GCSU and Milledgeville. My home town!
@milldawg007 That is a GREAT story!!!
Thanks @PTDawg and @christopherules. Can't believe I ever wore that filthy Orange....
@milldawg007 HAHAHA!!! I have SOOOOOO many things that "I can't believe I once did THAT???" in my own life!" I understand completely & have ZERO room to criticize anyone else sir! GO DAWGS!!!
I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. I grew up a die hard Husker fan (still am). I have always been a HUGE fan of college football and growing up i would watch any game i could find on TV.. One of those games happened to be the Georgia vs. West Virginia Sugar Bowl. I was 13 at the time and don't really know why, but from that point on I always kind of rooted for Georgia and watched their games whenever they were on TV.
Fast forward to 2014, I met a girl in Iowa who was from Georgia and attended UGA. 2 years later we got married and my casual interest in UGA turned into passion. It's kind of funny how all my Husker friends give me crap about jumping on a band wagon, but the truth is I was on this blog and following them religiously when CMR was still in charge and they were just a slightly above average team. During the fall we have two TV's set up watching the Georgia and Nebraska games at the same time. I hope they both win championships in the near future, but at the same time i hope they never play each other for one (I've already had to deal with that in bowl games and it sucks).
Both teams are headed in the right direction, but i am very sure that Georgia will get there first!
Not far from me. I live by the VA off Garners Ferry.
My earliest memory that I can remember was Bobo as QB and also have vivid memories when Quincy Carter was under center.
Bobo was the QB at Thomasville High in 1993 when they played Thomas County Central for the AAA state title. I used to talk to him all the time....we went to the same barber in Thomasville. 'Course, I am several years older, but his dad was high school coaching royalty back in those days, and in a small town like T'ville, we all knew who the Bobos were.
Early 70's Thanksgiving time. We had family over. Uncle asked if "the football game" was on. I was the remote control in those days (I was only 6 or 7 years old), so I flipped the channel until he said stop and there were two teams, one in red/silver, the other in yellow and white. Not even sure it was the actual game - could've been the Vince Dooley show that use to come on Sunday afternoons - just not real clear on that part. As we sat there my uncle asked me which team I liked, the Bulldogs or the Yellow Jackets? Well, the little school I attended at the time was Bartow Academy. Our mascot was a Bulldog. The Bartow Bulldogs! I asked which one was the Bulldogs and he told me the red/silver team. And it was on! Since that day I have been a Georgia Bulldog fan. A year or so later, my older sister's 4H class was going to one of the Georgia games. I was told I couldn't go. Well, I pitched a modern day millennial snowflake fit until my sister actually snuck me onto the school bus that Saturday morning and then into the game at Sanford Stadium against Kentucky. Stood horrified as I watched Erk Russell (had no idea who I was looking at) butt heads with the players until his head was bleeding. Don't even remember if we won. But I was sold out.
Watched most of the 1981 National Championship game from our patio outside peeping in every now & then through a sliding glass door because I was too afraid to watch every play. Still have that "Go You Silver Britches" hat that I wore that day.
The very first prerequisite for my wife was that she had to be a Dawg fan. Fortunate for me, when I met the love of my life in 1983, she was a Dawg fan. We were married in 1985 and have been getting season tickets since 1986 or 1987. We've had some great times going to games - right now, the Notre Dame game is by far out best away game trip.
In 2001, Mark Richt's first season, my cousin and I won an auction to spend Homecoming weekend with the football team. The whole shabang; team meetings, meals, wearing coaches attire, running onto the field - EVERYTHING. Mark Richt and his brother-in-law, Kevin "Chappy" Hines, led me to Christ that weekend after a small chapel service. Changed my life. Changed my family's life, too. I've seen many people chastise Mark Richt for "being a better man than a football coach". I'm glad he is. No telling how many lives he's change and for the good while he was at Georgia. I'm know he's doing the same in Miami. But make no mistake about it, I'm glad Kirby's here.
Seen a lot of good and bad football. Once thing's for sure. You have to live through some of the bad times to really enjoy and appreciate the good times. Right now - IT'S GOOD!

Born and raised in Atlanta but moved west many moons ago. My Dad was a Georgia Tech alum and I picked the Dawgs at a very young age just to piss him off
When I was growing up in Augusta, I never cared for college football. In 1983, I went with friends to the Ga. Clemson game, and the game ended in a **** tie. We sat in the Georgia section, and I loved the excitement and fun.
In 1984, a friend of mine became the theater manager at the Georgia Square Mall, and he was approached by someone at UGA about letting the football team come in to the theater on the Friday nights before a home game...a way to keep all the players together and out of trouble. In exchange, he would get 10 tickets to each home games. He invited me, and I was like “Yeah, sure, I guess.”. 1984 was the season Kevin Butler kicked that monster field goal. THAT was when I got hooked! The place was absolutely NUTS! And, after Butler’s kick, Clemson had a chance to kick a FG for the tie...but their guy missed. Another nuts moment!!
Two years later, I started getting my own season tickets!
GO DAWGS!
@PlayHurt beautiful story sir! GO DAWGS!!!
@OroValleyDawg GOOD FOR YOU SIR!!! GO DAWGS!!!
I’ve had family go to Georgia, I was going to make a post but this one appeared. What if you weren’t a UGA fan, would the reason you became a Georgia fan be the same reason you became a fan of wherever. I live in Tn and have family from Alabama so I’m glad I was raised a Dawg.
I moved from California in 1998 when I was 13. I didn't watch college football at the time. I saw the red power G and thought about the Packers at the time. I moved to Fort Oglethorpe, GA which is a suburb of Chattanooga so there were UT fans everywhere. They just won the National Championship and there were orange and white checkered cars on the road! I thought these people were crazy! Anyway, our neighbors (UGA fans with two English Bulldogs) invited us over to watch the UGA vs TENN game in 2000 and Georgia won for the first time in like 9 years. I remember they tore down the goal post and from there I was hooked. I joined the military in 2006 and have watched Georgia games in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Cambodia, Philippines, and Korea. I was lucky enough to attend the Rose Bowl last year being stationed in Ventura County, CA. Best game I have ever seen!
