I think they'd go for anything to get out of the house
Thanks for sharing that. As an old school guy, the proposed NL DH rule as a "temporary" measure sends chills down my spine. Classic camel's nose under the tent.
I know these are strange days and we all need to be flexible, but I hope that doesn't happen.
suppose we could just cancel the season instead ;)
Ha. I am equally leery of some of the "emergency" measures being crammed into recent federal legislation. Seen this movie before.
I love baseball. I love numbers.
baseball viewership is dying (I believe it has to do with the greed of seiling and owners not broadcasting all the games and length of games... alll 162 of them)
the games get boring when a gimme out of a pitcher comes up. They pitch around the 8 to get to the pitcher. DH adds excitement.
im glad.
I suppose that may be true for the average fan but I can't relate.
Just read that MLB players will likely reject a 72 Game season with 80% salary.
I guess being locked down in a mansion is stressful enough to demand 100% plus troubled times pay??
Pathetic
I mean sure, but if you think the players are rich how about the owners. The issue isn’t on one side or the other, they both just need to make some concessions. Also, it isn’t 80% of their salary it is 80% prorated, which is an important distinction.
As for the DH, I tend to think I’d rather watch a professional pitcher pitch to a professional hitter. It makes the games more interesting when there isn’t a free out in the lineup.
I haven’t obviously paid enough attention to this as I just figured there wouldn’t be baseball this year, but you are right that both need to make concessions. I would imagine that teams lose some money if they don’t have fans in the stadiums, but is that more or less than not having a season at all? Surely the TV deal would cover a good chunk of expenses and this country is starved for sports so they may be able to capture increased ad revenue to help offset.
Selfish - both sides - and unaware of their social responsibility to the fans and society they SERVE.
They will get their money eventually, and their kids won't have a sport to play in 20 years after all us old folk die and take the fan base with us.
They had a chance to see the bigger picture, to give hope to the whole country, and they blew it.
Freddie's fault. And those like him. Staying silent and showing more loyalty to the union than to the fans.
Billionaire owners' fault as well. Trying to make sure the fifth house in the Caribbean is paid for.
Lots of respect lost for those men.
The players AND the owners need to step up here and deliver a product to the sports starved fans.
Millionaires and Billionaires should be able to figure out how to pay back the common folks who have supported them to the tune of tax dollar augmented stadiums for the owners and high ticket prices that allow the players to be paid CEO money.
Our citizens need a win. Deserve a win in an otherwise crappy year. America's so-called pastime should deliver.
PS...As a season ticket holder, I do not believe we are getting refunds (without a fight, anyway). If the season doesn't happen, or is pro-rated I would expect them to try to roll the money into next year like they do with playoff tickets. So someone is making money off of all of the season ticket holders money right now.
well sounds like we are at an impasse... latest update is the PA isnt going to accept the latest offer. I dont get how we have all these other sports coming back and baseball might be the only one that isnt
I will never take the side of billionaires over millionaires, but I know if there’s no baseball this year I’ll never go to another pro game ever again
The sad thing about this is the heads of all major sports (MLS, MLB, NBA, NFL...not sure about NHL) have been on conference calls together with the governors of every state they have teams in since the end of February. They have been coordinating with the governors on safety measures, opening dates and were way ahead of the curve regarding getting the most relevant studies on virus projections. How the MLB is the only league that can't figure this out with equal information shows how dis-functional the union/league relationship really is. It's not an easy problem to solve, but the economics of it, along with the tradition of it, make it a problem that deserved better leadership than this has gotten. The other leagues have proven that it doesn't need to be the same to make fans happy. Just show a strong effort on both sides to show appreciation for the fans.
Dude, idc who's richer. Just sayin, it's pretty stank. They play a game for a living.....a very lucrative living
