Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

He's talking about "off-topic" comments, off-topic = unrelated. So yes, in that case a new thread should be started. A different take on the same topic doesn't warrant a new thread, as the overall topic isn't changing.
Prime example....
Jeff’s wishes will be enforced (that has been made crystal clear), but this really is an imagined problem. Duplicate threads do not carry equal weight, nor do they take away from the board. One quickly falls away - sometimes the old one because the topic has changed, and sometimes the new one because people are invested in following the original.
Seriously, the harm here evades me, and the tone feels like a lecture delivered by your aunt who doesn't have any kids
Is it just me, or has the volume dropped off a bit over the last month or so? I have found myself checking in to see that it’s the same old stuff from the previous day(s) and not nearly as many new topics, and discussion appears to have fallen off. The BIG threads can be too much to follow
Curious if the actual numbers support my observation.
Seems like a very strict interpretation of this policy so far...Moding for moding's sake is a bit of a turn off...some people value order more than others...I thought the freedom on this board was one of it's best qualities, personally, even if it lead to some annoyances along the way.
Hopefully there's some happy medium to be found eventually.
Of what.......doing what the powers that be want us to do. Don't like it tough. Boo hoo
It is called bandwidth which cost money. Weight has nothing to do with it lol
Would anyone notice the closed threads if the OPs didn't complain about them or mods make them known?
Duplicate threads get on my nerves bc they clog the board on the front page which 99 times out of 100 is all I look at. I get some of the counters as to why people prefer a separate thread, but I really love getting rid of clutter too.
Also I think this spring practice (outside of the arrests) has been fairly quiet. There's not manufactured QB controversy for the first time since 2014. We have a good idea who the starters are. We know who the young bucks coming in are. For me it just seems like there isn't much to talk about that hasn't been beaten into the ground.
Or maybe the bookend heartbreaks of 2018 have just beaten me down in my soul
honestly, I think the four of us are figuring it all out as we go along. Personally, I think the board has been a much nicer place all things considered.
Then again, it is offseason
@Kasey To your point, is there any way for y'all just to delete closed threads altogether? Kills two or three different birds with one stone.
Hang in there. Good times are coming
We have that ability, but I think we prefer closing to deleting. @dawgnms feels strongly about deleting threads and I'm following his lead on it
I will delete a spam thread with a quickness though
Yep if the only thing they can boo hoo about is a few closed threads I cannot wait until the season begins
I was thinking it would help clear out the clutter on the first page, but I guess the closed threads drop off naturally in fairly short order. Carry on!
Deleting a thread to me is a form of censorship, I believe in you own what you post. Deleting it would be like hiding something, I prefer to be up front and open and post as to why i closed it. Don't bother me one bit if people don't like it, I say get a straw and su ck it up.
IF I delete a thread or post the member will get a pm from me explaining why except a spammer
This right here ^ . Send a PM to the duplicate thread created explaining why it was deleted. Removes it from the “main screen” / first page altogether and for most of Dawgnation it will be as if it never was there to begin with.
Same as “duplicate” that doesnt get used.
Bandwidth? Okay, maybe but it’s just not that much. Still a better reason that saying clutter bothers a moderator.
The “tough-****” talk is unnecessary.
Figure of speech......I will try to do better
agreed. I had a small issue in my bourbon thread. we had some posts deleted, saved the thread, and had a understanding with the mod via private message. was a much better solution than what would have happened without mods
"Dont like that I closed a thread, all I can say is tough"
Another example:
NYCdawg (not a fan at all) had a thread about about Athens police and targeting UGA football player (I am extremely paraphrasing here). No where does he mention cox/beal in the OP, but it is closed and told to take the conversation to a thread about cox/beal. Similar subjects that could be connected in light of recent events, but not a duplicate thread.
So if someone starts a thread about "favorite colors" and someone else starts a thread about how they like the red sky at dusk, is one going to be closed and told to go post on the other thread?
I know it doesn't seem like it, but I agree we need a few mods on here. But mods should be like S.W.A.T, they should only pop up when things go bad. They shouldn't be out directing traffic.
NYCDawgs post was about targeting players for smoking weed. Same subject. Sorry you don't agree.
As for using the word tough. ....figure of speech.
Your right to disagree no problem with it at all. Mods wear lots of hats, traffic cop and babysitter are 2 examples
