Large is a 4th choice. Won’t ever start/be a game changer but would be a depth TE. He’s an emergency take if all the other TEs pass.

That's a pretty harsh evaluation considering what our TE room looks like right now.

Given the 2 specific pairings, this is clearly the most talented overall combination. Doesn't necessarily make it the right one, as there are a lot of factors to consider. Game readiness, transfer portal risk, etc

The group of 3 seems to be >>>>>>>>>> Large. Unless I'm missing something, Large is just not at that same elite level of play in any of the footage/highlights that I've been able to find. He looks like a guy who could definitely fit in and fill a Jackson Harris type role (no offense intended here)... He's a solid 3rd TE but you're maybe not super thrilled to need to have him starting until year 3 or 4, and even still he's maybe not quite the threat that you'd like there?

With that said, as SoFL has mentioned, nothing is done here... CTH has time to try and sell what I think is a pretty compelling vision... AG coming in as the Jimmy Graham-esque tight/flex end and DW coming in as the Tony Gonzalez-style true-TE, critical for blocking support but also a huge reliable target/possession receiver and red-zone mismatch/threat.

I mentioned it before, but I question whether a second TE spot is warranted if it's not one of the group of 3, given supposed improvements to Fitzpatrick and Goede and Seither in the last class... Just not sure how many bodies we need at the position? But perhaps the staff isn't big on 2021 TE candidates? Ultimately, those dudes get paid to know a lot more than me about the subject... 😂

Watching Large and judging his pass cstching against the other three is kind of missing the point. We need a TE who is going to be a strong blocker...and not just against DB’s. There’s a good chance Theo and AG will never that guy.

Bc of their frame and preferred play style. Despite what the recruiting sites say, Washington is definitively the biggest one of the three, and he’s not looking at schools that want to use him as WR.

Think Milton gets the love to himself today

When the hullabaloo wears off, we see a 2021 guy commit next later in the week

Johnson and Gilbert have better frames than Large, who you compared them to. Also, Gilbert considering being primarily split-out at Tennessee doesn’t mean he isn’t physical. He’s lined up at 5t and some 3t against 7a GA competition. Johnson primarily plays split-out at his HS, but he’s considering schools that will have him in-line. From a frame and athleticism perspective, both have a higher ceiling as a blocker than Large.

Right, on Cam Large. I admittedly haven’t looked him up; I’m just going by what people that know more than me tell me. As for Gilbert, I don’t think it’s his potential as a blocker or his physicality as much as what he wants to do. He could probably be an elite pass rusher...a coveted position, but he wants to catch balls and make plays.

Thanks for sharing this...lot to process here.

If one is led to believe TAM or Texas are UGA’s main competition for him, I guess it’s promising to hear that his mom is convinced that he’s going out of state (?)

A combination of Arik and Darnell is what we want and probably what staff wants but how could anybody say Theo and Large are “back up plans” and Theo is above Large when Theo is just a better athlete at the same time playing Canadian football while Large is the best player on the field in what looks to be against low level competition. If we can’t pull the combination of Arik and Darnell I would like to see Arik and Theo two very great athletes that you can pair with your “traditional tight ends” already on roster

What I mean is I wouldn’t see him eventually starting over the other 3 names. Not that he isn’t a decent TE. May end up a better blocker than all of them.
