Think it is a matter of football speed versus timed speed. He told me he never trained for 40s. But was able to be very productive in tough South Florida speed.
He even returned punts. Says something about his speed being more than serviceable there. It also says a lot about his wiggle.
Had an older brother that got picked (DL) by the New York Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft. Another brother signed as a RB with Notre Dame But has since transferred. Comes from a family of athletes. Seen as best of the bunch.
Try to set the horizon of expectation here as the nation’s No. 11 RB coming in. He will be as good as anybody else’s best RB in the SEC except for maybe at Alabama and LSU.
McIntosh will likely meet those. Especially behind "The Wall."
So as not to jinx anything, this is purely conjecture but what would it realistically take for us to have a path to #1?
Obviously, passing Clemson would require us hitting on our top remaining targets like Evans, Burch, Ringo, Smith, SVP, and Sewell and probably flipping someone like Dexter but would that be enough? Or are we talking about potentially needing to upgrade one of our lower ranked guys?
In any case, in a class where we have to bear the lead weight (from a recruiting rankings standpoint) of taking a kicker, just the fact that it's in the realm of possibility is already a significant accomplishment.
Edit: forgot about Gilbert and Washington, we really have a lot of irons in the fire.
I'm sure you get it all the time, but thanks so much for your contributions to DawgNation Jeff!
As always, you deliver some grounded insights that still leave us all pretty freaking excited. I'm just stoked to hear all the buzz that Kenny's generating early in what is already a stacked RB room.
Then to pile on with Milton and whichever stud joins him in this class... apparently there are no brakes on this train right now.
😂
If you take a step back, it just makes you appreciate how good Kirby is at hiring guys - whether it's original staff or additions and changes made along the way... Pittman and Dell just decimating the recruiting trail... About to find out how Coley has grown as a playcaller. Lanning and Schumann all grownsed up into co-DCs... Todd Hartley seems like he may be operating on a different CSP like level for TE... Tray Scott hopefully showing signs of blossoming. Hankton showing he knows how to get the thing done. And Fountain apparently instrumental in some of those DL recruitments among others. Firing on all cylinders for sure.
@Denmen185 enters stage left
Thanks for those details. Not trying to temper the hype at all but I did wonder in watching his highlights about his top end speed. The vision and balance look to be outstanding. I was wondering how he will do trying to get the corner in the SEC to turn 7-8 yd run into a 40+ yd run. It could be the video or maybe he was slightly dinged up but that next level burst in the open field didn't seem to quite be there. Love that he's a Dawg, though, and if Dell made him a priority that's good enough for me.
Current steps for the No. 1 class:
Ringo: Moves class to 282.86 score on the composite class. (Still No. 5)
Ringo + Evans: Moves class to 293.45 score (Jumps to No. 3 behind Clemson and 'Bama)
Ringo + Evans + Sewell: Moves class to 301.67 (No. 1 overall)
Best possible close of Ringo + Evans + Sewell + Burch + Van Pran + Gilbert + Washington + A. Smith + A. Williams + Dexter flip + 1 de-commit = 331.38
Just showing the steps there. The best possible class is just not attainable at this time.
Not sharing the mock class I have in my mind. Wrote about this awhile back. There is a LOT of heavy lifting still to secure the No. 1 class. Will require a couple of upgrades in certain spots.
Quick dose of perspective about the best possible close to 2020: These 10 moves to finish out the class would place Jalen Carter and Carson Beck as the 14th and 17th-highest rated players in the class, respectively.
That is just crazy. Those two guys can be future 1RDPs right there.
I don’t think we will need Evans to surpass CU. In fact I still would mock Tank into our class over Evans.
We still have the opportunity to add 5 additional 5 stars if not more. There will be changes on DL and the players who replace the others are higher rated. Burch is likely the swing player and I love where we stand with him atm.
I should say less...
So my "high-moderate" projected class right now would come in right around 324-325 with today's rankings. Highlights include signing Burch, 2 of the 3 elite TE pod, Arian Smith, SVP, Sewell, Bigsby and Ringo. If you wanted to take that to #1 all time, it's gotta pass 326 which it seems like would take either 1) Add Zach Evans or 2) Flip Gervon Dexter and then sign a DB rated higher than Jaqurious Conley (he's my 3rd DB at present)...
If you don't have at least one of Burch/Evans, it seems like #1 all time is probably out barring a re-rank boost (though a re-rank at this point may be more likely to bring the elite classes back just a bit if we're being honest). #1 in the class will have a lot more to do with how much room do Bama/Clemson have in the class (and what are they filling it with)... If Burch were to choose UGA is sort of a 2 way hit to Clemson's ceiling right now since they are seen as one of the top competitors for his talents (or if you are a glass half empty person, you could say the opposite for us if he chose Clemson).
Thanks for the feedback, the potential here is incredible and although we'd have to expect Clemson will still land Flowe and Webb, I can't help but get a little excited about the way this is starting to shake out.
I know the CBs are showing Clemson as the current leader for Burch but for my money, I'll take @ClemTown 's assessment that they're really #3 behind us and SC. In any case, it's time to get pumped.
If we get Burch we will be #1. Realistically Clemson has a shot at Burch and Flowe among the top 50. UGA is in it for Burch, Gilbert, Washington, Ringo, Evans/Bigsby, Sewell and Harris not counting a couple of flips. Everyone knows I see Zirkel as a 2021 signee so we are 4 commits behind, Adding Washington, Ringo, Bigsby and Sewell would take UGA to a score of 308.13 well ahead of Clemson. If they add Flowe they go to 307.92. They would be left with Burch, UGA would have Burch, Gilbert, Harris and Evans in lieu of Bigsby to significantly improve their respective scores. If UGA gets Burch it's all over.
@Teddy should I exit stage right?
My biggest concern for our fan base is the reaction if we don't finish #1 in recruiting.
As I've said many times before - I get it - but the main thing is that Georgia is going to have an outstanding class.
Singing a 310-320 pt class is outstanding. Above that is incredible.
Enjoy this Dawgnation - whether we finish 1, 2 or 3 this is incredible recruiting.
What is interesting to me is how much three programs are separating themselves from everyone else. It is very likely that 3 schools sign:
9 of top ten
26 of top fifty
40 of top 100
I understand that the concern is that these other two teams remain the greatest obstacle to our ultimate dream. But we are there.
So, a different type of question for @JeffSentell :
Historically, is this somewhat normal that 3 programs have such a high % of the elite talent on their roster?
Is it because these three programs seem to be signing so much talent from across the country and recruiting is not quite as much regional as it probably once was?
i would definitely say we might be on commitment watch for Van Pran
good looks
I didn't even realize finishing #1 was that big of a deal. Who cares?? We're literally signing amazing players at every position.
I think it’s a common trait among college fans that you want to win at everything.
However, in this case, I would take it a step further and acknowledge that class rankings feed perception and build your brand which in turn helps add future value to your class.
There’s a cyclical aspect to it that helps success be self-perpetuating.
I personally think that is a lame way to look at recruiting, although I do understand your point. In my opinion, If we get the guys that we want and the guys the staff wants, that is success, if that results in being #1, ok cool.
The manna keeps falling! Not only are we zeroing in on a top rated class, CKS is attracting Quality Character Gentlemen! The comments on Kendall Milton and Darnell Washington from this weekend are awesome. Kelee Ringo, Mekhail Sherman, Carson Beck and Tate Ratledge are ALL natural born leaders. Look at their positional spread; RB, TE, DB, LB, QB and OL! This class will be talked about for years to come!
I'll admit I'm hooked on ratings so I'll share modern era top Composite is 324.62 (UF 2010) and best average .9459 (Ohio State 2017), which was the number TWO Composite team that year. With the right combination of recruits, this class can surpass both! Go Dawgs!!
