Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Power is a tough tool to manage.
Modding is a tough gig. You're given guidances and directions to follow and I'm sure in most cases, they're doing their best to adhere to their spirit and intent while trying to not show favorites.
I would surmise though that these policies should be periodically re-assessed and revised as necessary for the health of the forum. These kinds of things often have unintended consequences that are difficult to predict in theory, only in practice. It's also normal to experience compliance "shift" through evolving interpretation if you're not regularly re-baselining the expectations.
For all I know, they already do this, I would just note that mods probably don't have as much free-ranging power as we give them credit for, they're still bound by a governing set of rules and page regulations.
He is probably closer to top 1 than he is top 10.
Welcome back, @SoFL_Dawg! Hope to see your official return soon (maybe with a coffee sipping mug??)
With that said, I agree with nearly everything you said. We as Mods agree we could've done things better on that thread. We've talked about it amongst ourselves and of course with Jeff's input. Firstly, we should've taken any grievances private , as we know how things can snowball, especially online. We discussed internally and agreed we will look to do so with suggestions/grievances in the future.
Regarding others, outside of SECFan, we agree you didn't ask for anyone to be banned. Just stating this so that the board knows that as well. And those others you reference weren't banned. You and I were messaging privately essentially the same time things began to go downhill on that thread.
Also, we've reread that thread numerous times now (unfortunately) to see where we could improve. After accusations that a mod told a user to leave (we take that seriously), we went back and looked and this is where our stories differ ever so slightly... You mentioned in a comment about going to another site, then a mod said that is your prerogative. It did not specifically ask for you to go elsewhere, only that it was your right to choose what you wanted to do. Semantics, I know. But I do feel there is a difference in saying you have the right to choose, versus being told to do something. Hope that makes sense to everyone.
Trust me, we love your input and value to this board. We hope to see you around early and often. If you'd like to discuss anything further feel free to private message me, any other mod, or Jeff. Cheers
With that said, (this is to everyone, not just SoFL), new forum rules will be coming out soon. No huge changes, but does have a shiny new troll clause in it. We thought some of y'all might like that. Also, if anyone has grievances with how things are being done on the board moving forward, please private message a mod. If you feel it needs to go above a mod, please reach out to Jeff (please note he's busy getting that crootin' news, so it may take a little bit for a response). Thanks to everyone for helping make this board great!
I agree, it's not a job I would want to do moderating something people are VERY passionate about where reasonableness and respect is forgotten.
Change is constant in life. Either get better or get worse. We're getting better. The aim is 1 percent every day. Just like any contending team strives to be.
I'm confident this board will be ready for Game 1 of this season. We're coming out of the summer grind and fall camp better than we ever were before. Best believe that. Typing lag? That is now in the rear view. Like a good many things.
This is the board's third year. Will be the best one yet.
For those that question what we are about and like to rank what we do against the other quality offerings in the UGA lane, thanks for that. We need that. Our numbers suggest otherwise, but we'll take that.
We need to feel like the O-line after a 1-for-6 effort against the 2nd-team D. (I'm a "say less" guy. Zero self-promotion. Create great content. That's all we should do. Just stay in a lane and go .... but I'll make just one exception here.)
'Tis a free country. Read whatever you want. Post where ever you want. Crown who you want to crown.
But our goal every single day is to have somebody you know say "Did you check out the forum on DawgNation?" today. IMHO, the best forum out there offers a great interface and experience + best content + the best people. It might even cost less, too.
We want you here. Reading. Learning. Having fun. Sharing your honest insight. Being among all the folks you wish you could be around until next Saturday.
Don't want to see anyone leave. Do hope all of you would try dropping me a PM before you ever do. But we'll also work tirelessly to see if we can bring you back, too.
Every. Single. Day.
Click. Read. Like. Love. Every. Single. Day.
We comin' .......
...... and we for sure ain't done yet.
247's board is crap, I tried it last week, if somebody goes there expecting a more mature atmosphere, good luck.
Plus, when you leave you'll miss me.
They say that forums experience their biggest leap between their sophomore and junior years.
Or is that quarterbacks? I forget.
Who is this @SoFL_Dawg y'all speak of?
Thx, Tex!
@Teddy, thanks. You couldn’t have done anything differently and I appreciate your post. Your post above continues to represent what good looks like, and my interactions with you have been top notch, especially in the heat of that moment. I appreciate it for sure.
For the board, Jeff is working on some things in partnership with the mods, and I’d anticipate an improved experience for all. In talking to Jeff, I should’ve also handled it differently, primarily waiting to speak to him directly which I didn’t do and that part is on me.
Regarding how I took the post to look elsewhere: this is a copied excerpt of that post from a mod:
“And on a small side note: I've seen a few mention how this site is "going down" and "losing members."
Since March of this year, we have added well over a few thousand new members and average about 10-15 a day right now. We're strong and this is a great site. If you disagree, other options are waiting for you.”
Interpretation in a heated moment can go a lot of ways. Obviously, I didn’t take it as a positive response. As I was the one who posted its “going down”, verbatim, I felt confident that it was aimed at me. Admittedly, I should’ve paused or clarified with that mod; I’m human behind this screen name too, and I did feel like the growth I’ve had a small hand in creating was being thrown in my face over a fu fan. Pride preceded the fall.
That said, once again, I’ve talked to Jeff and I’m ready to move forward. After all, there’s a reason the windshield is bigger than the rear- view mirror, right?
So if it pleases the board, it’s in the open, not sure more needs to be said publicly. Let’s close this down and focus on who we might land in the next 12 days?
