Keuchel started and pitched 7 innings for AA Mississippi today. Not a great pitching line, 11 hits and 3 earned runs, but was a victim of several “bleeders” and plays that should have been made. I would be surprised if he doesn’t start Friday against the Nationals.
Yeah Snit, come on! Why in the world aren't you using Kimbrel or Jansen or Chapman to close these games. Oh!...... wait a minute.... the Braves haven't provided you any of these guys or anybody else who would remotely be considered a legitimate major league closer. Yeah, but come on Snit, you could be using Blevins or Minter or Winkler or..... mmmm.... on second thought, just keep up the good work, Snit. Oh yeah Snit , if you are reading this forum to sharpen your game day strategy, I would recommend that you stop since you should have already figured out that that posters like me and @orlando don't really have a clue about baseball.
Yeah, that's something that a few folks on this forum specialize in...coaching from afar. Your post is well taken. He can only manage those on his 40 man roster. You have to stay where your feet are...can't be wondering what if we had....so and so.
Better bullpen pitching would help and maybe that will come along with the "new" Minter or someone else. Maybe not. There is always the trade deadline as a way to possibly strengthen the pen. It also wouldn't hurt if the starters could go a bit deeper in games and lighten the load on the pen. But there I go wishing again. Oh, there are my feet.
Man, what a series, great weekend of baseball. The ball park was packed all weekend long. This team looks scary, if we can work through the season and get to average in the bullpen .....they could really do something.
First time in about a decade I’ve seen an actual path to win it for the Braves. But still they are gonna have to make moves to do it.
Of course I like the way the team is playing right now, but it's way too early and pitching is too spotty for me to declare them title contenders just yet. Baseball more than any other major sport is littered with teams that looked good for half a season only to be exposed in the second half of the season. 162 games can wear the thin pitching staff down.
I like what I'm seeing from the offense right now though.
Hand would be a huge plus, he's been really good for over 3 seasons straight, that is a very good indication he won't fold soon. Cleveland is still very much in the playoff hunt though and they just signed Hand last year. I'll be surprised if they put him out there unless they take a nose dive.
Swanson has been good. Next step is consistency - needs a good 2nd half. Baseball needs to add a 10th player like slo pitch softball - need to get Camargo on the field - he's wasting away. Culbertson, meanwhile is a bench machine. I like Joyce as well. Nice bench.
The Athletic says Anthopoulos is beating the bushes trying to trade for a closer or other bullpen help. They suggested Felipe Vazquez was the most logical option. Sounds great to me.
"Vázquez, 27, is in his prime and controllable through 2023 with the last two years of his deal being team options. He’s under a club-friendly deal that pays him $4.5 million this year, $5.75 million in 2020 and $7.75 million in 2021 with club options at $10 million for both 2022 and 2023 and the buyouts totaling $1.5 million. Vázquez has appeared in 26 games this year with a 2.22 ERA with 15 saves and a staggering 46 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings."
